***Where Old Mercedes Go To Die...***

Winter shots of the BMW-MB graveyard in Zangberg. Some of the cars I photographed in the summer are gone while the winter brought some "new" additions to the place. Very sad...

Overview...

BMW 502 "Baroque Angel"

BMW 1602

Mercedes 220 (W111) Fintail

Another 220 (W111) in worse shape!

220S (W111)

A W108 250S in dismal condition...

Looked like a 280SE (W108) to me. Still salvageable if you ask me.

W110 Heckflosse...

This wasn't junk! Beautiful 300SEL Automatic!

Not junk! 500SEC (C126)

Old meets new: W111 vs W211...

Anyone still with me? :D

I hope they are not recycled into a Deawoo or something, that would just be terrible. :(

I still own a W111 220sb, and this was tough to look at! Where is this? I could use the spare parts! :-)

What's wrong with the W211? It's too early for it to die :D
I'm guessing that's your E320 Chris. How does it drive in that much snow?

Don't worry. Those old BMW's and MB's are used to provide spare parts for salvageable BMW's or MB's. I've seen the two guys who run the place do it. ;)

And they come to work in a white 240TD (S123) estate!

It's in a small town called ZANGBERG. The easiest way to find it is the following:

1) If you're in Munich, head down the Autobahn towards Mühldorf am Inn.

2) Once in Mühldorf am Inn, go down the B12 road towards AMPFING.

3) As you drive towards Ampfing, there will be a sign that says ZANGBERG. You've found the place. Drive through Zangberg and the lot is right at the edge of town. You can't miss it. ;)

Nice car you have!

It's my family's E320, but I do drive it a lot which makes me "sorta an owner". :D

It drives ok in the snow, though like all RWD cars, the rear tends to swing around when the snow gets thicker. In fact this Christmas, I got stuck 3 times in the snow in the middle of nowhere. On two occassions, passerby's towed me out (interestingly enough in two ML270 CDI's! :D), but on the 3rd occassion, I was stuck out near a lake with no one in sight. It was just me and my dog Frankie and temperatures were -10 degrees C! :eusa_doh:

Eventually, I had some friends of mine come to help me out: literally. :eusa_doh:

Sometimes I wish this was an E320 4Matic. :usa7uh:

So are these cars just abandoned, or is it a junkyard? Could someone just go and start stripping them for parts?

very sad pictures, no matter what season of the year they are taken...

Yep, but I feel the winter makes them even "worse" since those poor things are out there rotting in the cold...abandoned and forgotten... sorta. <-- Wow I could write a whole drama story based on this.

I think you'll have to ask the two guys who run the place if you can obtain parts. And they'll most likely answer with "Nein". Looks to me like they use some of the really rundown cars purely for parts in order to save other models. ;)

Yea, 4matic would've helped.
Speaking of snow, we just got loads of it. I went out in the morning with the the Explorer (my roommate's) and I couldn't resist to see what it can do in the snow. I had so much fun driffting in the snow on empty streets, it was crazy. It never let me down and I never got stuck. I only had one scary moment where I was making a turn and I hit the gas a little hard and just spun 180 degrees, almost hit a tree if it wasn't for the curb LOL

I did the same thing last winter with the ML, I made ESP blink like crazy LOL

Awesome! :D

Is your roommates Ford Explorer 4WD? Because if I remember correctly, you can buy them in plain old classic RWD in bone stock form right?

Yes it is. All the Explorers we've had before the ML were 4WD :usa7uh:

Are they not making a bluetech fitted ML for the States? I thought that was one of the markets they were aiming at with the new technology?

Yep, that's the one. ;)

Those cars seem to look whose in the snow, all alone!

Still, good to see they are being put to a good cause, wonder where those guys get all these old cars!
