What is the perfect car for those that live in the city centres?

It's the same question that comes to my mind when I am stuck in a traffic jam. Clearly, my car is not ideal if you constantly commute in the city centre. But what car is?

The first car that should come to one's mind is the Smart: Small, cheap to run, with low consumption. But it can only seat 2 people, with limited space for luggage. You can't stop at the supermarket, when returing from your work, when you have picked up your wife from her job. Also, the second generation is not short enough, to be able to park vertically on the side of a street, as it's about 10cm (if I am not mistaken) illegal. So, unless you are willing to chop off 10cm of your car, you have the same chance to find a parking spot with one that's driving a Fiat 500. Or a MINI Cooper. And the MINI driver gets more fun with his car :D

Then one should think of the current generation of two and four door mini cars. Chevrolet Matiz, Chevrolet Spark, Fiat Panda, Ford Ka, Renault Twingo, Toyota/Peugeot/Citroen Aygo/107/C1, etc. They are small. Very small. They are cheap to buy and to run. They can sit four people and their groceries. They are perfect!

Then one should never think of the Suzuki Jimny. But I do: It's still small, it can only be bought with an 1.3VVTi engine, it has selectable AWD, you sit confortably high, and gets good fuel economy. It can also sit four, and can climb high pavements, when there's not enough parking space on the road :D

My choise would be the Jimny, if I was confortable with spending an extra 4000€ over a Fiat Pand that would be my second choise and a Peugeot 107, that would be my third. But I would also have a car that can also be used for confortable travelling, off the road, has AWD and more power for this size. Four grand, is four grand though :D

What would be your choise and why?

Suzuki Swift :D light, economical and entertaining as the Mini but without the premium price tag.

I think a Skoda Fabia could do the trick, and if you want to save some bucks Dacia/Renault Sandero it´s also a good option. If you don´t need the rear seats, well I think a Suzuki Splash or his Opel brother can do it well. Until Kia release their TAM.

I will go for a Swift Sport or an Ignis Sport. A Jazz we had was pretty swell as well, though it had a dastardly CVT.

City driving, traffic jams…difficult. Car should be small with good fuel consumption, but also comfortable.

I think Renault Clio could be my choice…
