Golf VW Golf Cabrio: First pictures!

What would be the point of such a vehicle with the Eos out already? VW and in some cases Audi, needs to get a better focus on what their core models are and cut down on the niche filling. This cabrio would only differ from the Eos in that it probably won't have a hardtop making it cheaper.

Preview: 2009 Volkswagen Golf Cabrio

For as long as the Volkswagen Golf Cabrio has been in production, it has been built by Karmann at the independent vehicle manufacturer’s Osnabruck facility in Germany. For the next-generation of the Golf Cabrio, due to go on sale sometime next year, VW is expected to build the new car completely in-house.

There will be numerous engine choices for the new Golf including a new 1.6L TSI engine developing 200hp (147kW) as well as a high-performance 2.0L version with 260hp (194kW) in the GTI – the latter is depicted in this new rendering.
To keep costs low VW will use a conventional folding soft-top but noise and weather insulation should be comparable with a hard-top. Handling and dynamics will be worse than the regular hatch due to the extra weight from the strengthening required to make the car more rigid.
Expect to see the Mark VI Golf hatch make its debut at October’s Paris Motor Show and the new Cabrio appear sometime next year.

With the next-generation Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit looming on the horizon, Wolfsburg is gearing up for an array of new derivatives. First came the report of the next GTI and R hot hatches and now it's confirmed that VW intends to produce a convertible variant as well.
Positioned between the New Beetle convertible and the Eos, the Golf cabrio will feature a cloth top borrowed from the Audi A3 convertible. The Edscha-supplied collapsible roof mechanism should help VW get the new cabriolet to market in a cost-effective and timely manner, and reportedly preclude the need for a roll bar. Expect to see the Golf/Rabbit convertible, which will be made exclusively at Volkswagen's plants in Wolfsburg and Mosel, popping up on the market by 2010.
