VW CEO Martin Winterkorn pocketed $23 million last year in fixed salary, bonuses and profit incentives, nearly doubling his take home from the year prior. Winterkorn was paid about $12.2 million by VW in 2010, according to Bloomberg.Although VW was unable to knock off General Motors to become the world’s largest automaker in 2011, Winterkorn led the company to a banner year. VW’s earnings before interest and taxes increased 59 percent to $14.8 billion in 2011, and sales were up 15 percent to 8.3 million units.Winterkorn is now the highest paid executive of any company listed on Germany’s DAX Index and one of the best-compensated in the industry. In comparison, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche saw his pay decrease to $11.37 million last year
