Iran's most powerful military commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani, has been killed by a US air strike in Iraq.

WTF.... This will not end well.

I typically stay away from politics online, but I feel the need to give my 2c here. This administration is unhinged, irresponsible, uneducated and extremist. Someone called these clowns and their evangelist followers Y’all Qaida. This will not end well. I see World War III or some smaller version of conflict within the next few months.

Guess I should order my 992 very soon :)

I knew as soon as Pompeo asserted that Qasem was as dangerous as al Baghdadi that this was going to happen. This is going to be a wild ride...

Al Baghdadi...Soleimani...?? A pattern appears to be forming here. The world will stay tuned. There's surely more coming.

I think the North Koreans need special drone resistant umbrellas! Better watch out Kim, it could start raining soon.

Personally, I love what Trump did. Good riddance.

..."Personally, I love what Trump did"...

I think that he really had little other choice. Following Benghazi in 2012, not only Trumps' constituency, but a considerable portion of the U.S. electorate in general would have not accepted anything less assertive. The question now is: How far will the regime in Iran go in their measures of "taking revenge"? Which red line (s) are they prepared to overstep ? The reaction from Washington D.C. may arguably greatly exceed the parameters of what may be considered an "in kind" response. The response will be far more devastating should U.S.-Americans on their own soil be directly targeted.

The situation will remain highly volatile, attempted diplomatic intervention by the EU is destined to fall upon deaf ears and the efforts that could lead to de-escalation must include Russia and China. It's Middle Eastern Powderkeg of the perhaps most critical kind yet witnessed. My 2 Euro cents.

Indeed. They have very big mouths, but they better be careful because the wrong move could very well mark the end of their regime.

These utterly crazy fundamentalists are a cancer on the face of this planet. Same for Saudi Arabia, but at least they wisely accept to be America's compliant lap dog.

Some would argue George Bush and Tony Blair are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. Are we OK with Iran taking them out with a drone?

As much as I agree that Soleimani was far from a good guy, these kind of actions WITH NO SUBSEQUENT PLAN are extremely naive. He's just been replaced by his deputy, so what has it achieved? An angry Iran out for revenge.

I'm extremely concerned about the next 12 months.

The biggest argument against what has just happened comes out of Trump's own mouth. He failed to negotiate...

It was a well-intended message and a warning too.
But also an extremely valuable gift of fear.
If these people are not venturing out before looking upwards at the sky...They are now.

Indeed. They may be out for revenge (which means they will start killing innocent civilians somewhere), but they better think about their next move, because it may well be their last move.

The environment that we currently witness in the Middle East leaves me missing the late Peter Scholl-Latour, a reknown Franco-German war reporter, journalist and publicist. His elaborations and scenarios were uncanny in their foresight and accuracy. Whether the theaters were Vietnam, Desert Storm, the 2003 U.S.-lead coalition in Irak, Arab Sping...it appeared that he never failed to "nail it".

I see the US democrats and Hollywood celebrities have doubled down on the outrage because of this.

I mean, let them try and see what happens (y)
but wouldn't it be the same thing?

Why is killing people using a factory made bomb vs making a bomb on your own different? You must know as you are so clearly for what Trump and the ones before that started a war have done.

Isn't a life worth the same no matter how its taken or where its taken?

Or let's say a life of an innocent person, never mind this iranian dude or other evil ass leaders on both side of the fence.
Cause civilians die in war to.

Yes- I noticed that while watching a bit of CNN yesterday evening. With all concern undeniably warranted, it appeared theatrically hysterical to me. It surprises me that even Germanys' federal government spokespersons were far more measured in response and the elaboration of their concerns. U.S. Democrats appear to be firmly hardwired in "self destruct" mode since the election of Donald Trump as POTUS. It's absolutely flabbergasting as one would think that less hysteria and far more somewhat removed level-headedness would be a good route to take in confronting an erratic, impulsive, ineloquent Trump.

Yeah, ridiculous eh? A President with a history of erratic behaviour assassinates a high-ranking military commander inside a thrid sovereign nation without any warning, risking lighting a tinderbox which is already in danger of exploding, and some people voice their outrage. Some people
