Paramount finally confirmed the inevitable this week, as the studio announced that both director Michael Bay and an official release date have been locked down for Transformers 4. The movie is already being trumped up as part reboot, in the sense that it will exist within the continuity established in Bay’s previous Transformers flicks, but is also going to “clean house” and remove certain characters (primarily, human players) who played prominent roles in the original TF trilogy.

New insider reports on the fourth Transformers movie also claim the film will be a “direct” sequel to the third installment (subtitled Dark of the Moon) – and that certain thematic elements from the previous movies will also be left out of the loop, this next time around. A source for Badass Digest is claiming that Transformers 4 is going to be “a straight up sequel” to TF3 where the plot is simply no longer told from Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf) perspective – unlike the previous three movies. Whether or not any of the additional human characters from prior installments – like John Turturro as Agent Simmons or Tyrese Gibson as Sergeant Epps – will likewise not be returning, is another matter.

UPDATE: In a recent interview with E! Online, Josh Duhamel – who played Major Lennox in the first three Transformers movies – indicated that he didn’t anticipate there to be any returning human cast members from the previous films in TF4.

Bay posts images of Optimus Prime, Autobots with shooting starting in Monument Valley

With shooting starting in New Mexico on “Transformers 4,” Michael Bay has revealed the new designs for the Optimus Prime truck and two of the Autobots.

“Principal photography on Transformers 4 has begun,” Bay said on his blog. “As guests of the Navajo Nation, we took a convoy of brand new, re-envisioned and remodeled Autobots out for a spin down Highway 163 in Monument Valley near the border. Stay tuned…more to come!”

Bay said the upgraded, custom-built Optimus Prime is from Western Star (a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America) while the Autobots are a 1,200-horsepower Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse worth more than $2.4 million and a race-inspired C7 Corvette Stingray, based on Chevrolet’s upcoming 2014 production car.

“Transformers 4″ stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz, Sophia Myles and Li Bingbing. Paramount has set a June 27, 2014 release date.

New photos have been released, showing off Autobots old and new, as director Michael Bay gears up for the start of a new trilogy.

Transformers fans assumed that 2011's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" was the end of an era. The film seemed to be the finale of Michael Bay's reign as robot king, but it turns out that the blockbuster director still has at least one more round of mayhem in him. And thus "Transformers 4" was born.

The film starts shooting this summer, and Paramount has wasted no time in getting fans hyped up for the next installment in the billion-dollar franchise by releasing photos of two new Autobots. The first is a 1,200-horsepower Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse, which sources have pegged as the Autobot swordsman Drift. The other is a C7 Corvette Stingray that is most likely the Autobot Slingshot.

Drift made his debut just a few years ago within the pages of IDW Publishing's Transformers comics. Initially loyal to Megatron, the robot formerly known as Deadlock changed his ways to fight alongside the good guys as the sword-slinging Drift. If this Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse is, in fact, Drift, then the character has undergone a makeover, taking the character away from his signature white paint job with red accents.

The C7 Corvette Stingray could be the vehicle form of a G1 Transformer from the '80s cartoon, although longtime fans wouldn't initially know it. Slingshot's been a member of the Autobot combiner team known as the Aerialbots, and therefore an airplane, for his entire existence. But the abrasive Autobot was left out of the Aerialbots when they appeared in 2009's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," and it looks like he'll be making his big screen debut as a sleek automobile.

Even though the film promises to introduce a totally new human cast, director Michael Bay reassures fans that it's not a reboot. A newly released photo of Optimus Prime seems to confirm this.

"It's not a reboot; that's maybe the wrong word," Bay told the Los Angeles Times. "I don't want to say 'reboot' because then people will think we're doing a 'Spider-Man' and starting from the beginning. We're not. We're taking the story that you've seen — the story we've told in three movies already — and we're taking it in a new direction. But we're leaving those three as the history. It all still counts."

Leading the new cast is Mark Wahlberg, who agreed to join the franchise while working with Michael Bay on "Pain & Gain."
"One day he was just like, 'Hey, do you want to do another movie?' and I said yes," Wahlberg recalled to correspondent Josh Horowitz. "He goes, 'You wanna know what it is?' [I replied] 'Well if you want to tell me, but I want to do it." That film turned out to be "Transformers 4," a project that Wahlberg jumped at the chance without even knowing the role he would play. "[Michael Bay asked] 'Do you want to know what the part is or what the story is?' I go, 'Whatever you want to tell me, tell me, but I'm in.' "
The new human cast also includes Nicola Peltz as Wahlberg's daughter, Jack Reynor as her racecar-driving boyfriend, T.J. Miller as Wahlberg's best friend, Kelsey Grammer as the film's primary human antagonist and Stanley Tucci. This casting shake-up was deliberate, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told MTV News, and fans shouldn't expect a cameo from original trilogy star Shia LaBeouf.

"The intention is this is a new world, with new characters, with Mark Wahlberg leading us," di Bonaventura said. "It's a different movie, but a lot of the things that you love about the other ones are joining the ride."

"Transformers 4" is set for release on June 29, 2014.

Hollywood director Michael Bay just couldn’t contain himself from revealing the latest star to join the Transformers 4 crew, a Pagani Huayra supercar. Knowing what the Huayra is capable of, we wouldn’t have been able to keep it a secret either.
Bay posted this image of the Huayra on his personal blog, where he also described the car0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp as being a “masterpiece of design and engineering.”

This particular Huayra is finished in a never-before-seen color from Pagani, blood red, and it has a particularly fierce look to it that would make it an ideal Decepticon in the new movie, though it’s entirely possible the car could be an Autobot or perhaps, dare we say it, just a car.

Other vehicles announced for Transformers 4 include a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, a Corvette Stingray and Sonic RS rally car from Chevrolet, a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, a military truck from Oshkosh Defense, a Western Star truck0f19c9f479bdc177b6a3970c2d2abf44.webp, and a classic 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Interestingly, a modern, fifth-generation Camaro SS has also been spotted on one of the movie's sets, suggesting Autobot Bumblebee will transform into both versions during the movie.

The latest instalment of the Transformers franchise is currently being filmed and is set to premiere nationwide on June 27, 2014. The movie will take place roughly four years after the events of 2011's Transformers 3 - Dark of the Moon, though none of the previous human characters are expected to return.

Mark Wahlberg will play protagonist Flynn Vincent and is set to be joined by fellow actors Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, T.J. Miller and Bingbing Li. Though it’s yet to be confirmed, Kelsey Grammer of Frasier fame is also believed to be starring in the movie.
