These lists are utter rubbish. You just can't measure real pollution by using g/km. How many km does a Veyron travel, or a LP640 travel per year? At the end, cars like the Toyota Camry and the Prius pollute more over the course of the year than these so called "Top ten most polluting vehicles". These environmental hippies should stop the supercar bashing.

Let's do some basic arithmetic:

How many Veyrons are expected to be built? 150? Maybe 200?
Now, how many Toyota Priuses will be sold by the end of this year alone - around 1,100,000.

Ok, next, let's talk about the average mileage a Veyron is expected to cover in a year... I bet Simon Cowell's won't even do 10 000 km in a year but ok, let's go with that.

The average Toyota Prius mileage will, at very best, be twice that, if not 3 times as much. But, in the interests of fairness let's say it's 20,000 km.

A Veyron egests 571 g/km of CO2; a Prius a commendable 104 g/km...

So: Number of Cars x Ave Mileage x C02 output

If all the Veyrons in the world do as much as 10 000 km each, the combined CO2 emission will amount to 1,142 tons per year.
If all the Priuses in the world do as little as 20 000 km each, the combined CO2 emission will amount to 2,228,000 tons per year.

Bad supercar. Naughty supercar. Sit! Stayyy...

Thanks for that martin!

May have to prove my science teacher wrong with that:D

But its no wonder the veyron is top of the list!:D

Good calculations but you also have to consider how many people can a car carry. In this case it's 5(?) vs 2. Same thing with Smart. It's environmentally friendly but can only carry two.

That's a good point. Gas mileage always (effectively) multiplies with the number of passengers. That's why buses are (theoretically) some of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the planet.

If a bus carrying 20 people gets 6 miles per gallon, it's getting the equivalent of 120 mpg simply by virtue of the fact that each person in the bus would have to get 120 MPG in their personal vehicles in order to end up using only 1 collective gallon of gas in 6 miles.

:D

ojis, I see where you're coming from but I was trying to make the very simplest of points:

Supercars are rare, exclusive and special; the low number of them relative to even the most environmentally efficient mass-market cars out there means that their total contribution to greenhouse gasses is a mere fraction.

Of course, saving the environment and the planet are paramount considerations but let's target the really big contributors to global warming and environmental pollution and not a merry little band of supercars. Leave them supercars be - I say...

So, the heading of top ten most polluting cars is dreadfully inaccurate.

I guess lists like this make daft people think that banning supercars will reduce pollution to a meaningful extent. That is like saying that the rich CEO of the company should cut his wage to save the company... it is always the masses that need to be corrected.
