I respect Lexus, but there is one car I just can't stand from their lineup and that's the SC430.

Listen as Richard Hammond slams this car in his review.

"Lexus has all this money, all this cash...and they still came up with a car that feels like a Mexican Hacienda." :D

I remember seeing this review a couple of years back and laughing :D

Lexus does make good cars, but like you, i can not stand the SC430. It'a terrible design and from the countless reviews i've seen it handles like a boat..

Regarding the design..here's what comes to mind..

:t-rot:

All of the above IMO of course

What I love about Top Gear is that Clarkson and Hammond and May are so funny. They make watching their videos fun as hell, especially when they slam cars. :D

This car is horrible!

I like Lexus and I defend them when it is suitable and right, but this.....this is just absurd. 7.3 you have it right, the damn thing does look like a sperm whale.

Geez! Can't they understand the correct way of making a sports car!

that car is just wrong..plus tyra banks has one..
and im not in the running toward becoming americas next top modell..
in fact i hate that show:D..haha

ouch
I havent seen that bad of a slam since the Porsche Cayenne
Clarkson got out of it and said he'd rather walk back to the Top Gear studio lmao

SC is old...wait for the replacement, it should be impressive. btw, thats a beluga whale :D

It is old, but it was never a class leader IMO. To me, the SC430 was either in a class of its own, or last place when compared to the competition. Price and reliability aside, what does it offer?

Compare it to the competition for example. The SL, XK8, XLR etc. are all sportier, just as comfortable (if not better) and look a million times better and IMO have more brand image than the Lexus SC430, especially outside of North America where Lexus really has no prestige.

I also stated that perhaps I am misunderstanding this car. Maybe it wasn't meant to compete with the Porsche 911, MB SL500, Jaguar XJ8, Cadillac XLR etc. Maybe the SC430 was designed for those who seek the quietest engine in this class and as much isolation from the road as possible. Personally, such qualities don't speak to me, but there are people out there who like this. To them, that's luxury. So perhaps the SC430 was designed for this exact purpose.

Either way, I was never a fan of the car and Top Gear doesn't lie. When they say the ride is uncomfortable, they mean it. They also explained it pretty well. It's not soft, but hard.

Maybe the next generation SC will hopefully look better and drive better. :usa7uh:

Top Gear doesn't lie? LOL Joke of the month! :D Top Gear is more of an entertainment show than a serious automotive programme. :usa7uh: (For example I don't think the Touareg is as bad as they claim)

But back on topic:

The SC430 is really showing its age and doesn't have much to challenge the competitors with. Let's just wait and see what kind of successor it'll have.

They're entertaining, yes, but they also have a lot of credibility if you ask me. Also, a distant friend of my father drives an SC430. He was the talk of the town (well, those who knew him) when he bought it because everyone here wondered why he didn't buy an SL etc. I met this guy once or twice, and I asked him how he likes the SC430. He said it's a good car, but it could be better. I can assume from this that he wasn't liking the ride. :usa7uh:

Are you mad because Jeremy Clarkson doesn't like BMW's? :D

I've driven the SC430 a couple of times now and it isn't that bad, but it is no competitor to a 6-Series, SL, XK or anything like that either. The car is really just a 2-door, 2-seat LS430 (not 460) in concept which is why it gets ragged on all the time.

I'm sure he'd take them over an SC430 though. :eusa_danc

I'm sure you noticed but in my last post I was j/k. ;)
I'm not mad at him at all, actually I enjoy watching his (usually) crazy car tests. :D I just meant that they can't be given too much credit for reviewing cars objectively. They are more entertainers and thus exaggerate and judge cars by their own fondness.
