I never knew the Panda was that popular elsewhere... in Finland it's in 151st place (Jan-Oct 2008). :D

I don't understand why the sales figures and rank don't correlate properly in that list, but damn the A4 is selling up a storm over there. I wonder how the C and 3 compare.

Two Australian Audi dealers I spoke to said the A4 hadn't performed as well as they anticipated. Subsequently, the pricing has already been adjusted a few months after introduction.

On the other hand the C-class continues to knock around the 3-series, but the FL 3 is being launched this month.

The cars on the list are actually the top 10 best-selling cars in September but the sales figures are YTD.

Given Peugeot's reputation of unreliability, why is is it still selling so well?

I think a lot of people are going for a fully loaded Accord Euro which cost about the same or less than a basic A4. It doesn't help that the standard A4 looks completely anonymous and cheap.

Some people don't really care about reliablity. Plus there are quite few French people in Europe... ;)

Because people like the style, and because you can get a good deal on one. If you take a look at the list you'll notice that there are no Japanese cars on it which suggests that reliability isn't too high on the list of priorities for most buyers. Besides, modern Peugeots aren't that bad... not all of them at least.

Today's Peugeot are nice-looking, well-equipped, not that poorly finished, and drive incredibly better than, say, a VW, while having a very silent motor in comparison. And they are way cheaper. Make your maths!

The reliability is not that bad. The 307 had a lot of problems the first years, the rest of them are quite trustworthy in fact. It's Renault who has incredibly unreliable cars (bar the Clio), not Peugeot.

And honestly, you can't get better than a Clio or 207 in the category. It's not so obvious in the upper-categories, but for small cars the french are nearly unbeatable, and not nearly as unreliable as they are said to.
