motor1.com, among other automotive media outlets as well, published this information:


It's an interesting endeavour that could potentially pay impressive dividends. But I wouldn't think that VAG would intend to go "head-to-head" with Rivian just yet. Or ?

As a lad in Munich, I saw these (along with the more common Ford MUTTS) being used as military police vehicles by U.S. armed forces stationed there back then. My family lived in the vicinity of one of the larger military bases (McGraw Kaserne).

Seems like an odd pull for VW, but I see now from the article it's come about because VW's Truck & Bus division bought Navistar, which is what International Harvester became when they sold off the farm machinery business.
