How Mercedes-AMG mastered a new era of F1®
16 wins in 19 races. 701 championship points, eleven one-two victories and 18 pole positions. The 2014 Formula 1® season was a very special one. Ten years ago, a new era began in the premier class of motorsport. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team was crowned the first Constructors‘ World Champion in Formula One®’s new hybrid era. It was the start of an unprecedented run of success, with seven Drivers' and eight Constructors' titles in a row. Hywel Thomas, then Engineering Director at Brixworth, and now Managing Director of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains, reflects on the first year of the new power unit regulations. ‘That success really did show us that the power unit was pretty special, even if it never felt like we had the time to reflect on what we had created,’ he recalls.
