In a recent testdrive, a journalist from Swedish AMS reported an average consumption of just 4,1 l/100 km (68.9 imp mpg/57.4 US mpg) in winter conditions for the ED 320d. This figure was achieved during 200 kms of normal driving around town, autobahn and B roads.

Well done, I would say!

There is no other car in the world with this much power and those values for consumption. It's one of a kind unique.

These are truly awesome figures for a 163 hp midsized car in what could best be described as a real-world combined cycle.

Edit: I just realized that the 4,1 litre figure is exactly the same as advertised. That means that the 320 ED actually meets the EC cycle in real life driving!

Hungarian AMS did 6,2 l/100 km with an Opel Insignia CDTi Ecoflex (160 hp).
They did 100 km in town and 250 km on country roads, after these they came out with this results. The BMW's 4,1 litre is unbelievable. And fantastic, too. :D:eusa_clap

Wholey macaroni!! If only the diesel movement was bigger here State-side. What can the 1er achieve with the same engine considering it is a tad lighter than the 3er? :t-hands:

Just add on an electric motor to provide a little boost in horsepower, and even more efficient city-driving consumption..and bingo!

I am proud to say that I average 2.5l/100km less than Volvo claims for my car, for it's urban circle consumption.

:D

Wow, that sounds quite good, too good, I don't think you did it right though, I read from a Finnish car mag in the Q&A spot about how the companies and magazines count these average consumptions and it suonded quiiiite complicated, oh and the question was that how do the companies count fuel cosumpions, cause he had got the consumption way better than the manufactures result.
Sorry for the long and unnecessary message. And BTW, nice result from this test, when I started reading this thread I thought that the result would have been 6 l/100km but no, pleasant surprise :)
