Steve Jobs Resigns from Apple

"To the Apple Board of Directors and the Apple Community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve"

To be honest, I am really sad about this.

Perhaps or maybe not. It could be entirely possible this is a strategic move by Apple to have him step down now right before the iPhone 5 and other newer and better products come up.

Well put. Being an Apple Investor, the biggest volatility factor of the Stock was Jobs' future. I think it was a strategic move for them to have him step-down amidst the Stock already taking hits due to the overall economic concerns, and right before many major Apple launches and Quarterly Reports, etc.

Regardless of what is really going on, it's really sad about Jobs, and I'm glad to hear that he will be Chairman Of The Board.

Apple will dominate with or without him, but let's hope it's with him.

Politics and strategies aside, Steve Jobs is Apple, and it grieves me to see him go, as well. Still, Apple has a lot of talented and driven people apart from him, so, like he said, it does have a bright future ahead. And yet, it somehow feels wrong, Apple without Jobs, so it is good to see that he'll still have an active role in the company.

He goes when the company is strongest. This week I believe they where the most expensive company in the world for a couple of hours.

Basicly, I think, it can only go downhill from now on. Good products will stay, market domination will decrease.

Tim Cooks be running the show for the past 1-2 years, so they're in good hands.

As long as the products keep on, and they continue to innovate while keeping their clean and concise, simple business model (Car Manufacturers could learn SO DAMN MUCH from Apple), then Apple will continue to excel with or without Jobs. His departure as CEO will get lost in translation after the initial knee-jerk reactions dry up and the Reports stop flooding. Then people will concentrate on Apple the company, and if things go wrong, then the Jobs question will get brought back up.... If and when things keep going right, he'll continue on as the legend who started it all.

I've always considered Jobs to be a strategic genius, and it will be interesting to see how they do without him. But I'm feeling confident in Apple
