Mercedes-Benz first revealed its facelifted SLK range back in December but since then partially camouflaged cars have been spotted testing in both Europe and the U.S., suggesting that several updates are still planned for the car before the arrival of the next-generation model sometime early next decade.

A number of SLK prototypes fitted with panoramic glass sunroofs were spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in Europe back in March, confirming Mercedes is planning to expand its folding glass roof option to the SLK range. In addition to the obvious glass roof, the test cars were also distinguished by a unique rear bootlid.

These latest spy shots show a mysterious SLK with its top down and sporting some camo gear on its rear quarters. The car also features the same unique bootlid markings as the previous spy shots but according to the photographer it appeared as though there were also some solar panels located behind the rear seats.

Whether engineers are testing an advanced fuel-saving measure or not remains to be seen - it could, after all, turn out to be the same electronic tinting film as used on the high-end Maybach, however this has long been considered too expensive to fit on ordinary production models. Whatever it is it looks like Mercedes still has some updates planned for the current SLK range.

I really expected MB to offer the Pano roof option when the SLK was launched back in 2004 because the SL already had that option. What is taking them so long?

SLK girls are Daddy's little whore... :)

Totally agree with that mate :usa7uh: There is this girl in my uni who drives around in a lowered, debadged SLK200 with big 19 inch Carlsson rims. Everyone was expecting to see a hot slutty chick driving it, and well .............we got the ''hot'' part extremely wrong. Feel sorry for the car.

Out of the current MB line-up which models future Bluetec engines?

New spy photos showcasing the Mercedes SLK equipped with a panoramic glass roof have emerged today, courtesy of the fine gentlemen of Auto Motor und Sport. In the photos, the darkened glass roof is clearly visible, as is a significant bulge over the rear wheel of the model that's hidden by light camouflage.

Rumor has it the bulge is simply testing equipment as opposed to any actual exterior changes, while further speculation has suggested that the panoramic roof won't make it's way onto the SLK until 2011, when the next-generation SLK is revealed. Pricing for the roof is expected to be about EUR 1,800.

We will of course keep you posted if any new details emerge. In the meantime, keep scrolling to see a few additional shots of the Mercedes SLK fitted with a panoramic glass roof during testing, or head over to Auto Motor und Sport where you can find the full SLK spy photo gallery in its entirety.

Looks like a SLK350 with this year's AMG option package for the U.S. market. Looks great to me. This is coming new year IMO, not 2011.
