X6 [Spy Shots] BMW X6 ActiveHybrid (Production Version)

The BMW X6 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV by German automaker BMW. The BMW X6 is the originator of the sports activity coupé (SAC), referencing its sloping rear roof design. It combines the attributes of an SUV (high ground clearance, all-wheel drive and all-weather ability, large wheels and tires) with the stance of a coupé (styling featuring a sloping roof).

BMW X6 ActiveHybrid Spied with Massive Power Dome

This is no regular BMW X6. I mean, look at that power dome! Our spy photographers caught this camouflaged BMW X6 ActiveHybrid, which is slated to be BMW's first hybrid-powered coupe - yes, the BMW X6 is officially a four-door coupe, a definition shattering notions about modern-day coupes.

The engine is a two-mode hybrid gasoline-electric engine developed in co-operation with GM and Daimler and should cut fuel consumption by 20 percent. Just like with all hybrid cars, the X6 ActiveHybrid runs either on electric power or uses an internal combustion, depending on whether the car runs at a low or high speed and generates energy from braking. Apparently the colossal power dome is there just for testing purposes, who'd thought that?

According to our sources the car will be ready for a launch by mid-2009 for the 2010 model year. Enjoy the pictures and stay tuned for more news. In the mean time, take a look at BMW's official press release from September.

Or is it just a big pimple on its nose? :D

I'll tell you what's that, that's a BMW made car for which i don't give a rat's *** about...:D As long as i'm not being forced to buy hybrid car (meaning, as long as petrols and diesels are "legal") i won't care about it, nor i'll follow what's happening in automotive world on that subject 'cause i simply don't care. I'm sure they'll develop a technology that'll make no difference, but at the time being, no thanks. And i think it will last...

Oh, and if you find me non - environmentally friendly because of this, feel free to discuss about it at TheByte, not here.;)

Thanks.:D

:t-cheers:

I'm w/ you all the way on this one!!!!! It's called "Individual Choice" Where's the keys to my V-8!!!:t-drive: Thanks.PalBay

20 percent more efficient.....thats nothing to write home about...

That is nothing to sneeze at... diesels get about 30 percent extra so that's a comparison for you. I'm just curious what kind of weight it will add, that's all

is it not---
take into account R&D cost, battery cost, increase of energy use in production.....

*heeeeee chew*;)

I believe this is what the M version may look like, so I have every intent on following its production, the same way I carry on with the 35 and 50.....

In the end, I'm just an X6 addict, looking for my pic fix, knowing that my emotions range from this, when I see pics:

To this, when no pics/ right news seen in a bit:

(Or when I've been worked up into a frenzy.)

I was thinking that as well (M version) because on the hump on the bonnet, it may be hiding a bulge like on the V8 M3:t-hands: and those exhausts I don't think a hybird would have those on:t-hands:

(Gasp)

That's right! The exhausts! If you take a closer look at the exhaust in the concept photos, it shows a sliding compartment that is in sync with what engine part you are using, and they did not look like that.

I'm going to cross check this, but I'm quite sure you are right.

:highfive:

No luck, no clear pic of it, but I fell in love all over again. And I want those rims.

(sorry for the huge picture..for more detail)
Why would a Hybrid have disks like those and aerodynamic wing mirrors BUT this concept hasn't got any exhaust sticking out:t-hands:

OH and you can also see the bulge in the bonnet.

I'm searching feverishly for Hybrid pics, but the same ones keep popping up. There was one I saw once that showed the compartment sliding.

That bulge does not belong on a hybrid. Did BMW actually show us a concept that is in itself a mix between two models? Interesting--

It features aero kit & huge brakes because it a an Active Hybrid. :usa7uh:

Exhaust pipes are hidden, and are only exposed when combustion engine is working (mostly always) - yet that's a gimmicky Concept feature which has nothing to do with production car.

Check this video (from 0:46 to 1:05) to se the exhaust pipes.

Oops my mistake, but i can't see the point in an active hybrid because it would just eat the electricity OR does it change between the engines depending on how your driving. E.g if your flooring it, it will change to the petrol engine but if your casually driving it will use the "battery pack":D?
