It looks just like the current car. Except for the new GS-like face and a (quite ugly) new dashboard. I don't understand the point of this car; I mean is it a rival for the C or E-Class?

Err... ummm..... ........hmmm...

I've got a bad case of heart burn because it's mighty hard trying to digest the design. I guess it's a bit more of a conservative/luxury version of the GS.. pretty much a two-prong strategy for the 5er/E-class segment. Kind of like Mercedes with the E and CLS, but both Lexus models are mainstream sellers, unlike the CLS which is more of a niche alternative.

I remember very similar photos of the new GS in this shipping dock setting and it wasn't flattering AT ALL, but the press pics showed something much more appealing. Might be the same for this new ES...but I prefer the aggressive persona of the GS.

Screw the car for a moment!! Does the lifter in the back really is a Ferrari product? :eek2:

Coming back to the topic, this new car does looks like a huge improvement & will sure steal sales from other FWD luxury family sedans like Avalon, Maxima & LaCrosse etc. No, it does not rival any luxury German sedan (like 3er, 5er, C, E, A4, A6 etc) by any means, as its FWD & is intended to target a different group & market. ES has been a very successful product for Lexus ever since the day it was launched & did serve the purpose to lead the entry-level FWD luxury family sedan segment. Being an ex-owner of an ES, I can affirm its extremely reliable & if it was a RWD car, it would sure be a threat to the sales of other luxury family sedans in its price range, regardless of the make. Having said that, I don't see anything wrong with this new car, considering the fact you're paying for a Super-Camry with a luxury brand emblem & in the long run it won't require a high-end/pricey shops to get the services & jobs done, both, mechanical & body!

:t-cheers:

Looks very good. The wheels probably would be much better in the NA model, but definitely much better looking than the current generation ES.

That I can definitely attest to! My mother-in-law has an '01 ES...and it's got about 200,000 on the clock and it still runs like clock work! Regular DIY maintenance (eg: oil changes, brakes, spark plugs, etc.) and it still bloody dependable AND cheap to maintain! Only thing I can think of was it needed a change of the timing belt not too long ago..and needed a new key fob after the old one broke from regular wear & tear. I'm hugely impressed..and that's coming from a guy who's family has a long history of Toyota's.

Again, looks quite nice. The rear lights look nicer than the GS'...

My god that is another UGLY as sin creation by Toyota. Please...the first and second gen ISs were good looking...what the hell are they doing now? :t-banghea And STOP with that stupid grill, that's ten times worse than what Audi is doing.

Here, a very big part of the Audi sales are also FWD.

Atrocious! Damn, it's like Lexus gets uglier by the generation. Now they're trying hard with those stupid looking grills, which just look not only poorly and desperately designed, but not fitting with the rest of the cars or the brand itself.

I'm driving around an ES350 right now, and Lexus really does make the blandest and most non-emotional cars around, regardless of HP figures, etc. It's just in the products blood. On a side note, I saw some new GS's in person, one was parked right in front of the ES I'm driving. No presence whatsoever in person, looks just as lifeless as any other Lexus, with an awkward front end. Sure, yes, elegant, clean (aside from the front), but no presence or life, IMO. Looks like a smaller LS. The ES looked even sleeker when parked behind it.
