Boxster/Cayman (987) Sport Auto - Porsche Cayman S PDK (FIRST TEST)

The Porsche 987 is the internal designation for the second generation Porsche Boxster sports car, built from 2004 to 2012. In 2005, it was joined in the range by the new Cayman fastback coupé (project 987c). Production: July 2004–2012 (Boxster), August 2005–2012 (Cayman). It was succeeded by the Porsche 981 in 2012.
911-killer in numbers only, maybe. Add comfort, refinement, style and image: No way. I think you can add practicality too.

AutoBild Sportscars - Porsche Cayman S PDK vs. Porsche 911 Carrera S PDK (SPASM)
As you can see the Carrera S was 2 seconds(!) slower in Sector 1, because it slipped on the curbs of the first corner.

Tomorrow: Cayman S PDK Sport Auto Supertest
This is the lightest PDK-testcar: 1402 kg wih full tank of fuel, SportTechno-wheels, bucket seats and PCCB.

Any explanations Dede ? What went wrong ?

I can't tell yet, the magazine's still not available here.

But this testcar should also be the fastest of all: Sport Chrono, PDK, Torque Vectoring, ceramic brakes, wider rear wheels (SportTechno), bucket seats... it only weighes 1402 kgs, 30 less than the first Cayman S-testcars.

I have to say I wouldn't be surprised. von Saurma does the Hockenheimring-laps for the Supertest as well and that particular laptime is 1,3 sec slower than what his colleague managed with the 1st car...

Here are the laptimes for the 981 Cayman S PDK on HHR:
1:12.8 min - Christian Gebhart (Sport Auto) - stock brakes, PASM.
1:12.9 min - Guido Naumann (AutoBild Sportscars) - stock brakes, PASM, SportTechno-wheels.
1:13.0 min - Jochen Übler (AMS, former Sport Auto)- stock brakes, PASM.
1:14.1 min - Horst von Saurma (Sport Auto) - PCCB, PASM, SportTechno-wheels.

The 1.10,65 with the Carrera 911 PDK were driven by Horst von Sauma. Later tests show 1.12.xx. In my opinion, Porsche carefully prepares the (first) press cars for max. results. So the driver is not the cause for the differenr results in my opinion.

The newest test of the Cayman s shows a lignup witihin factory standard whereas prepared press cars show often car geometry outside factory standard.

At least the 1.10,65 of the Carrera S were driven with a pre-series-version of the 991 (incl. tires with showed horribel wet results but semi-slick like dry grip).

No, Horst von Saurma managed 1:10,4 min, that 1:10,65 min time belongs to Guido Naumann (AutoBild Sportscars, tested in summer of 2013), and it wasn't a perfect lap since he slipped on the curbs of the Nordkurve - without that mistake his time could've been under 1:10,0 min.

You are right on the geometry, the Supertested car had a much higher negative camber, maybe because of the Sport PASM.

I hope I'll be able to buy the latest issue tomorrow, I'm curious of the reasons on the relatively slow laptimes of the Cayman S.
