Mosler Sport Auto: Mosler MT900

Mosler Automotive was an American sports car manufacturer headquartered in Riviera Beach, Florida. It was founded in 1985 by Warren Mosler as Consulier Industries. The company produced the MT900R racer and the street-legal MT900S, as well as several unique project vehicles, until its demise in June 2013 when all assets were acquired by Rossion Automotive.

"some specs as tested:

550 PS at 6,400 rpm
675 Nm at 4,900 rpm
78.4 PS/litre

kerb weight: 1250 kg
2.3 kg/PS

0- 40 km/h - 1.5 secs.
0-100 km/h - 3.9 secs.
0-140 kn/h - 6.1 secs.
0-200 km/h - 10.6 secs.

80-120 km/h - 3.2 secs. in 4th gear
80-160 km/h - 8.2 secs. in 5th gear

Vmax: 330 km/h

the Mosler MT900 GTR is no competitor to the Lamborghini Gallardo, Porsche Turbo, Dodge Viper and co ... but the Koenigsegg CCR, Carerra GT, Murcielago and Paagni Zonda

the engine comes from the Corvette Z06 and gt some tuning,
the gear box comes from the Porsche GT2

no timed laps at the Hockenheimring as the suspension and set-up needs some more fine tuning, but very promising! "

I'm glad European mags are getting their hands on these American supercars.

A guy at Fast-Autos.net used to work for mosler and has driven all their prototypes and the first production car etc. He says the car is very loud, and not a very good daily driver. Mostly focused on track performance where it origins.

Yeah it's defientley not an everday vehicle, I read EVO's review of the vehicle and they say it really was like driving a race car on the road.

Although aside from that i'm thoroughly impressed with the Mosler, especially with it's performance. Right now we have no cornering data, but you can be sure with Mosler's extensive work with race cars the MT900 handles like one. The straight line performance is really great, 0-200 km/h in 10.6 is pretty damn fast, for comparsion the Carrera GT does 0-200 km/h in 10.3 seconds. Although the most impressive aspect of this car in my opinion is the in-time acceleration, which I would believe has partly to do with the lightweight 1,250kg kerbweight but the gearing is just fantastic. Most American supercars, both the Ford GT and Chevrolet Corvette C6 come to mind have great straight line speed but far less impressive in-time acceleration. For instance, the Viper SRT-10 takes 9.3 seconds in 4th gear to go from 80 to 160 km/h, the F430 taking just 6.7 seconds to do the same operation. I'm not being biased either, just stating my observations. The MT900 though..wow..I checked and it battles it out with the Zonda F in nearly every gear up to any speed :eusa_clap

I suppose the gearing is set up properly

I think C&D (or some other US mag) did 0-60 in 3.3 or something in second gear!

Yeah, racecar on the road. That's what it is.

Here's a pic of him, aka Gunman.

Is it me, or is the MT900 not getting as much respect and attention that's enjoyed by it's European rivals?

Never knew it had a ZO6 and GT2 parts
How much is it?
The Saleen takes all the credit for american supercars and this get left out

The MT900 is this test cost 223,500 Euro's, for comparsion a fully loaded F430 with ceramic brakes and an F1 gearbox is 177,000 Euro's and an LP640 with ceramic brakes, E-Gear and Sports Package is over 278,000 Euro's.

The Mosler is a promesing and nice looking car IMO. Sure, it's a racecar on the road as stated....but you have to sacrifice something for lower weight.

About the in-time acceleration from 80--160 km/h comparison you have to consider the different gearings on a long throw big volume V8 (as on the american cars) and a short throw V8 (as in Ferrari 430). So it's like comparing apples and pears. For example: When driving my Z06 in 4th gear in speeds of 80 km/h I estimate that the engine has about 1500 rmp, I'd guess the same goes for the Viper. In a Ferrari the revs would be much higher because of the difference in gearing. So in order to get a fair comparison you should have to put the american car in 3rd gear and the Ferrari in 4th.

For sure..:usa7uh: I don't deny it, comparing vehicles with different gear ratio's can be unpredictable. All different set ups, weight and etc.

Just stating that when you compare the Z06 and the F430 beside each other in the same gear, you can see the F430 has a slight advantage. Same story goes for the Koenigsegg CCR, especially the supertest vehicle. It had the ballastic top end gearing, as a result it's in-time acceleration was slower than the Carrera GT & Zonda F. When EVO magazine tested the CCX with shorter gearing it's in-time acceleration was much stronger.

I'd probably go with the shorter gearing

:t-cheers:
