My X1 23d started with this problem (now 8800 km on the clock).
I had the same problem on my E53 X5 4.4
(I send a e-mail to local dealer and BMW SA Motorplan)

Windshield/Dash creaking noise!
I recently started getting the creaking noise everytime i backed out or go up the driveway. It seems to come from the center of the dashboard near the windshield. It seems to happen when the car flexes. Now its increasingly worse and sometimes I can hear it when i'm driving (accelerating). I've read in some threads that it comes from the 2 bolts in the middle that connect the front strut tower brace. Has anyone else had this problem recently? Also, has anyone tried to tighten these 2 bolts? It looks like I will have to remove a lot of plastic covers to access these bolts. Does anyone have instructions to access these bolts? Any help is appreciated, thanks!
i had the EXACT same problem with my e60 525i. i really didnt know what the problem was or how to fix it. the lease was almost over and i never cared to fix it but when it was at the dealership one for routine service they fixed the problem without me even mentioning it and free of charge. im not sure exactly what the problems is but it is some bolts that have come loose
I just discovered the same problem, When I push on glass and hold it the sound goes away.Seems to be between the glass and dash? Its starting to drive me nuts!!!
Years later...... anyone figure this one out? I have the same creak from the same spot. If I (even gently) push on the dash towards the front of the car, like above the instrument cluster, it stops. The moment I let go it's back. Even the tiniest crack in pavement will cause it to creak. Sounds like a rickety ship!!

Windshield/Dashboard Creaking Sound....
My X5 has only 700 miles on it and I'm getting a creaking sound over bumps somewhere up by the windshield and dashboard. For such a solid car I'm surprised by this. Is this something that will go away over time, or is it something to get the dealer to look at?
