Škoda Skoda marks 100 not out


Škoda Auto a.s. is a Czech automobile manufacturer established in 1925 as the successor to Laurin & Klement and headquartered in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic. Škoda Works became state-owned in 1948. After 1991, it was gradually privatized to Volkswagen Group, becoming a partial subsidiary in 1994 and wholly owned in 2000.

Czech manufacturer Skoda is celebrating 100 years since its first car was built in 1905, ten years after the company's inception. To mark the occasion, Skoda is building a limited run of 500 'Edition 100' versions of its Superb executive saloon flagship, with 200 of them bound for the UK.


Available as a 1.9-litre 130bhp turbodiesel (£20,900) or 2.5-litre 160bhp turbodiesel (£23,305), the Edition 100 costs £2100 more than the Elegance on which it's based. For that you get bespoke grey leather interior, 17in alloy wheels, twin chrome exhausts, privacy glass and bespoke badging.


Standard equipment includes sunroof, rear blind, colour satellite navigation, Bi-Xenon headlamps with washers, rear parking sensors automatic rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.

Honestly, the Superb actually feels better-built than the Passat it is based on. Not sure about the new Passat though.

BMW didn't start making BMW automobiles until 1929, we've still got a few years before we can celebrate that anniversary!

WCF is reporting that Skoda are currently celebrating 25 years under Volkswagen Ownership. Probably worth celebrating because I'm not sure they'd have made it to 100 without VW!
