I've recently began playing Silent Hunter III and I thought it was a cool game until I began saving missions. Turns out the save game feature was not properly tested and although my missions load, a few seconds later I get the message that my U-Boat has sunk and everyone is dead. I get this stupid message all the time after I every saved game I load. I could be in peaceful waters, surfaced with not a single enemy ship nearby and I will always get the same friggin message.
A non-working save game feature just kills a computer game for me, especially in this type of game. The only place the save game feature works is when you are in a friendly port. On a lot of career missions I am sent out to patrol in the middle of the Atlantic for weeks and months at a time. And although you can fast forward time by the 1024 factor, it will still take a good 20-30 minutes for you to go from bases in Germany or France to a place halfway in the Atlantic. It takes even longer when you're forced to dive because of enemy air activity or armed surface vessels.
I can't save a game when my U-Boat is in the middle of the Atlantic. I need to return to port. Seriously EPIC F_CKING FAILURE @ UBISOFT ROMANIA.
I made a thread about this on the Subsim forums and that's where I found out about how this game wasn't properly tested before it hit the market. How the hell did it get such good reviews then? Worse, there seems to have been no PATCH released that would correct this fault.
My question is: Does anyone here know of a patch that corrects this problem? It really sucks to return to port every single time to save a game.
