S-Class Should I get a used S class?

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.
Hello! I have recently become a fan of Mercedes cars. I used to love Mustangs, but after seeing the technology and comfort in MBs I don't like Mustangs as much. So, naturally, I'm thinking of getting a used S class to be the first car I own. I'll probably drive one of dad's cars at first, but after getting used to driving (6-12 months) I want to get my own car. With all this in mind, are there any important differences between the 2014-2016 S class? How much would maintaining and fixing such a car cost per year? (provided I take it to an authorized service and not try to fix it myself) I've heard that these cars tend to have quite costy and often breakdowns due to their complex electronics . I'm thinking that if I get it from Germany and make sure that the car has had it's inspections, oil changes, etc done on time I could avoid some problems. How long could it take until a 2014 S class starts causing me trouble? Thank you for your patience and willingness to help!

I don't think much differencell between the two maybe 2016 will have ironed out first year model issues..

As for maintaining a 2016 with low mielage should be good plus I suppose you will have a warranty..We have a member Mick who has got over 100 thousand kilos on his S.

Overall they not heavy to maintain for first 6 years or so again depends on kilos and service history...

After that costs start rising..

If you get a well maintained low mielage 2014 to 2016 I would say you fine for 4 to 6 years my own general view and experience.

First of all Mustangs and S-Classes are like apples and oranges.

Then again, maybe you should get something different as a first car, perhaps something smaller and with less power?

Huge thanks to everyone who replied! I guess I should start small and get an C or E as Mick suggests. And in the meantime I'll follow the forum, maybe I'll learn a couple of things.

w140 s class, the first car i drove, w221 being the second
you will lose your interest in lower end cars, i always find the C / E class too junior-alike:p

of course they cost more to acquire/maintain, but they last long plus you enjoy the refined ride during the course.

if you are confident with a pocket deep enough and won't dent the car, get the S.
