Over the next few days I will cover the highs and lows and industry trends at the IAA.

Mrs Scott came with me for her first baptism of Press day and she was as giddy as an englishman going to Amsterdam for the first time.:D
And even brought her own brand of humor to the proceedings - On the Beetle R - "It is like someone taking up Sado-Masochism for the first time." Although she wanted a Beetle Couch!

Needless to say she enjoyed her day and was surprised at how rival manufacturers take benchmarking seriously. Especially the Chinese manufacturers who had a paint measuring machine to measure the depth of paint on a BMW , the question is how did this get past customs because it was a serious electrical device?

In the meantime BMW also had another World Premiere that you had to catch without blinking.
The new BMW M5 Ring Taxi chased the M5 around the hall during the press conference.
Of course you seen the Ring Taxi at the M festival? Well there were no Alpine White first production models available so they stuck decals on a Monte Carlo Blue car instead.

At the 11th hour they were talking about a 3er appearance - It was to be when Klaus Draeger left the stage after the M5 to return in the i8. They were discussing a disguised 3er would come and pick him up
and tease the audience and whet their appetite. Everybody would know what it was and then it will disappear until the actual launch.

The 6er / Mission : Impossible intro was a last minute addition. But the Carbon Black M-Sport Packet 6er looked impressive on it's sporty 20" wheels.

The next BMW's - 3er Sedan and 1er Sporthatch 3dr will debut next March in Geneva along with the BMW M550dxDrive and M550d Touring.

Mercedes-Benz will launch the ML63 AMG in LA and the new SL Roadster in Detroit in January.

In the meantime. We have to go back in time to 2005. Somebody has uploaded this to YouTube and is a fascinating watch .
Especially when you see how it is not wise to be late if you are only down the street.

When can we expect to see the official first photo's before Geneva?

Btw, thanks for sharing. I envy both you and the Mrs, wish I could be there:t-cheers:

the next 3 should be on test drive mid november in Spain :) so expect official pics in october/beginning of November

Yes they have moved the launch up by a week to the 2nd week of October, but there is still an international event in London in November.
The Active Hybrid 5 originally scheduled for the IAA will now debut in either LA or Tokyo . And the all-new BMW M6 Cabrio in early December could also appear in Tokyo. To signify a big return since the non-attendance at Tokyo 09.
But there are some interesting prototypes that have left the FIZ for two years of public testing so expect them after the IAA news has evaporated over the next week to take their place as headlines in the automotive media.

And for MINI the next Concepts will be an idea showcasing a MINI with a hybrid drivetrain that will eventually materialize into the Spacebox. The production Paceman will be prologued by a more production-ready Concept ahead of the World Premiere , similar to the MINI Beachcomber ahead of the MINI Countryman.

With the Coupe being launched and the Roadster imminent. The anticipation is to wait until the establishment period is over to justify "what next?"
There is two ideas on progression with the Coupe as a more focused ltd edition JCW GP edition with the Roadster becoming a MINI "Speedster" with stripped out interior , less weight and an idea that has been with MINI for a long time but have never got around to implementing it - a clip on roof.

Of course if the MINI Coupe and Roadster are very successful early decisions relate to the next generation being less a MINI variant and more of a MINI branded model with a bespoke body that will share MINI design DNA but not be an F56.
MINI is very much the experimental creativity lab for some off-the shelf ideas and they are investigating new niches such as MINI "loungeracer" which is like a MINI combined with a single seater motorsport car.

From what we heard, there was never a thought to show the 3er there, not even a teaser.

But what do we know?! :)

I can tell you the exact date and time if you want to :))

With this being the only and last warning on this subject: If you guys know the exact time and date, it's good for you. So, you now have two options:

1. Reveal the time and date to the benefit of this community
2. Stop bragging and playing the "I know it all" role

We have been through this a few times in the past and it never ended well. Please don't respond to this part of my reply. I would appreciate if this thread didn't go off topic. In case anyone wants to reveal the time and date of the F30 reveal, please do in the dedicate F30 thead. Any more posts of this type will be deleted without any warning.

But what do we know?! :)

Why are you being sarcastic/ironic?

Why are you being sarcastic/ironic?

Look at our track record, we always contributed to the community here.

As far as the reveal date, we can't say it yet since everyone else in the BMW world will take it and say it was them that revealed it. Only I can say is this: in the first half of October.

No official photos prior to that.

So, basically, we are saying the same:

Stating the fact that you know something that most probably noone else here knows and most people would love to know, without revealing it, is not called contribution. It's called bragging. And it has proved to be catastrophic in the past. So, I cannot understand the reason of post's #6 existance, since you can't reveal it. If you can't say the bloody date, why propose to reveal it?

I will say it for one final time:

If one knows something and wants to reveal it, he/she is welcome to do so. This is called contribution. If one knows something but doesn't want to reveal it, he/she should keep his/her mouth shut. Posting here that he knows something but can't reveal it, is at least bragging. Could be regarded as provoking or insulting is some cases.

PS. A friendly advice: A smart man says less than he knows, because you never know how the guy behind the nickname is ;)

Post of the year, IMHO.
