Over the next few days I will cover the highs and lows and industry trends at the IAA.
Mrs Scott came with me for her first baptism of Press day and she was as giddy as an englishman going to Amsterdam for the first time.
And even brought her own brand of humor to the proceedings - On the Beetle R - "It is like someone taking up Sado-Masochism for the first time." Although she wanted a Beetle Couch!
Needless to say she enjoyed her day and was surprised at how rival manufacturers take benchmarking seriously. Especially the Chinese manufacturers who had a paint measuring machine to measure the depth of paint on a BMW , the question is how did this get past customs because it was a serious electrical device?
In the meantime BMW also had another World Premiere that you had to catch without blinking.
The new BMW M5 Ring Taxi chased the M5 around the hall during the press conference.
Of course you seen the Ring Taxi at the M festival? Well there were no Alpine White first production models available so they stuck decals on a Monte Carlo Blue car instead.

At the 11th hour they were talking about a 3er appearance - It was to be when Klaus Draeger left the stage after the M5 to return in the i8. They were discussing a disguised 3er would come and pick him up
and tease the audience and whet their appetite. Everybody would know what it was and then it will disappear until the actual launch.
The 6er / Mission : Impossible intro was a last minute addition. But the Carbon Black M-Sport Packet 6er looked impressive on it's sporty 20" wheels.
The next BMW's - 3er Sedan and 1er Sporthatch 3dr will debut next March in Geneva along with the BMW M550dxDrive and M550d Touring.
Mercedes-Benz will launch the ML63 AMG in LA and the new SL Roadster in Detroit in January.
In the meantime. We have to go back in time to 2005. Somebody has uploaded this to YouTube and is a fascinating watch .
Especially when you see how it is not wise to be late if you are only down the street.
