Autocar editor Chas Hallett has back-to-back tested the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom, ahead of a feature that will appear in next week's magazine.

You can see some of the exclusive pictures from the test by following the link below:

Blogging following the test, Hallett wrote: "What staggered me was just how different the Ghost feels to the Phantom. And those differences are apparent from the second you slide into the driver’s seat.

"You sit far lower in the Ghost, and far snugger too. Yes, you're still sitting higher than in most saloons, but it feels far more conventional than the Phantom’s imperious driving position - which still feels totally unique. As does its control layout. The Ghost’s cabin looks and feels exceptional but there are still myriad more buttons on display than in the bigger car.

"Away from the kerb there are huge differences too. The lighter, more powerful Ghost has an accelerative urge that the Phantom can’t even hope to match. It also feels a good deal more nimble on tight, twisty roads."

"On plenty of road surfaces it rides just as well too. But the Phantom is simply about being the best riding car on the planet, and on really broken surfaces and over expansion joints it can still show the Ghost a thing or two about bump absorbtion and noise suppression."

Definitely the Phantomm!! While I still am not convinced by how it seems to sit on its rear wheels, and to be bended because of the underlying characterline, it has a much more aristocratic presence than the bland Ghost.

The Phantom undeniably oozes class, presence, power. The Ghost doesn't ooze much at all.

You do it right or you don't do it at all. So, Phanthom, the Grand Rolls for me!

I want to ride my RR not drive it
So phantom For me..:)

Yep, same for me! If I want a car to drive myself, I go for a Bentley. But the Phantom is the crown of being driven…even a Maybach doesn't come close because it doesn't have the style of the RR! :usa7uh:

^ You can take a Bentley. It will be inferior to the ride of the Ghost  Not to mention the upcoming coupé and cabrio :D

Great pics there J_M. And an interesting read.

Phantom for one reason - If I can afford the Phantom, I can easily afford another Ghost, so I don't even have to choose between the two, except for which one to drive or be driven in on any given day.

Both of them Chubby as hell. But it is amazing to see how close in size the Ghost is to the Phantom.

The Ghost -Outstanding interior and very sleek exterior. Probably a little bit fun to drive then the Phantom.

The Phantom - The Flagship and the biggest grill on earth next to the Mac truck. Plenty of room and more of a car to be driven in.

Interior - Ghost
Exterior - Phantom

.....Still debating

In real life they are not 'chubby' at all. Pictures don't capture the angles, creases and the proportions of these RR. I believe RR calls it 'waftiness'. It is definitely obvious and desirable in real life.

EDIT: Although I must say I have only seen a Phantom and in real but I'm quietly confident it will be the same case for the Ghost.

^I've seen both in person and they are both Chubby IMO. Not that it's a bad thing...Same goes for the W140. Personally I love cars BIG. I'm not really a fan of the tiny cars that car swing around corners fast. I love big and powerful cars with weight to them.

Indeed a hard call but, I'd go with the new lady here! The great-looking baby Phantom makes the mama look fat & aged! :usa7uh:
