The E-Class Cabriolet is the most attractive open-top car, and the SLS AMG is the most beautiful super-sports car among all the new models that have appeared over the last twelve months. This is the result of a major reader's survey conducted by the German motoring magazine "auto motor und sport".

This year around 21,000 readers took part in the vote for the Autonis design award, which "auto, motor und sport" presents for the most beautiful new cars. The sole criterion in this vote is which car the readers find most visually appealing. The clear winner in the "Convertibles" category was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet. Among the sports cars it was the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG that found most favour with the readers.

The attractive E-Class Cabriolet received this coveted design award for the authentic open-air feeling the four-seater evokes with its classic fabric soft top. Viewed from the side, it pleases the eye with clear proportions and an elegant silhouette. With the innovative automatic draught-stop AIRCAP®, a further development of the neck-level heating system AIRSCARF® and the standard acoustic soft top, the Cabriolet not only has highly appealing looks, as the vote confirms, but also offers all-season comfort for four occupants that is unmatched in the open-top segment.

As Germany's most beautiful sports car, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG stirs memories of the legendary 300 SL from the 1950s with its exciting design and gull-wing doors. Moreover, this super-sports car shines with exquisite technology whose highlights include an aluminium spaceframe body, an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front-mid engine with dry sump lubrication developing a peak output of 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 newton metres of torque, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in a transaxle arrangement and a sports suspension with aluminium double wishbones. This high-tech combination guarantees driving dynamics at the highest level for this sports car, which is already seen as a design icon.

Head of Mercedes-Benz Design, Professor h. c. Gorden Wagener: "We design cars which stand out through their refined sportiness, innovation, beauty, sensuality and uniqueness. The SLS AMG and the E-Class Cabriolet visualise all these brand values and establish a clear brand identity”.

The Cabrio is site on the road from the few times I've seen it now. Never seen an SLS on the road yet, only at the dealer showroom.

The cabrio is definitely a looker, unfortunately the same can't really be said about the coupe. They must have designed it with the cab in mind...

The other day i saw a black E250 CGI coupe with AMG goodies and my god that car looked GORGEOUS!

Readers vote for "The most beautiful cars of 2011":
Mercedes-Benz wins in four categories

Stuttgart, Oct 20, 2011

Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz CLS, the SLS AMG Roadster and the various models in the C-Class are the most attractive vehicles in their respective classes. Furthermore, the legendary 300 SL Gullwing of the 1950s has earned the right to be called a design icon of recent decades. Such were the results of a survey of readers undertaken by leading German motoring magazine "auto motor und sport".

22,916 readers submitted votes in this year's Autonis design awards, which are made each year by "auto motor und sport" to honour the most beautiful new cars. The survey's only criterion is to establish which car readers find the most visually appealing. The clear winners in the medium-size category, with more than two thirds of all readers' votes, were the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the coupé of the same model family. Readers showed themselves impressed by the dynamic design of the new generation C-Class. This was especially true in the case of the C-Class coupé, with its classic coupé proportions.

In the luxury segment, the magazine's very percipient readers voted the Mercedes-Benz CLS four-door coupé into first place in the beauty contest. Like its predecessor, the new version of the CLS offers a very convincing package of captivating design and refined sportiness.

When it came to the cabriolets, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster was the car that found most favour with readers. The open version of the super sports car features the same technical highlights as the coupé model with gullwing doors that caused such a stir in this same competition back in 2009. With its compact soft top, which opens and closes in just eleven seconds, the new SLS AMG Roadster combines excellent driving dynamics with breathtaking roadster fun.

Even after almost 60 years, eyes light up when one of the legendary 300 SL models appears on the scene – Gullwing or Roadster, the effect is the same. This reaction serves to underline the longevity of the car's stunning design. It also underpins "auto motor und sport" readers' decision to award the title of "Design icon of recent decades" to the 300 SL – a "lifetime achievement award", as it were.
