They are having the Qatar Motor show from 28 Jan till 1 Feb 2016 and I was at the show yesterday and there were some great cars and bikes, although it wasn't as good as last years show.
I have split my coverage and pics into four parts with a right up of my views and oppinions of some of the cars on show.
Part 1 then is the Audi, BMW and Mercedes stands which were the best at the show for the variety and quantity of cars.
Audi:
1) New Audi A4:
First time I saw this car I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't the A3 saloon as the front is quite similar but then I recognized the jagged tooth lower light section. I was pleasantly surprised that this car does look better in real life than in pictures, although it is similar and just an evolution of the previous model it still looks quite sophisticated and not bad at all.
PS: See that red head saleslady, she is a stunner from Scotland!
I was mostly impressed with the new A4 interior, the look and feel of most of the main components is in the interior is really good, but I wasn't bowled over and in certain areas I was slightly disappointed in the material quality which I expected to be better than this. The good things first and what impressed me alot was the excellent seats, which were both very comfortable and supportive in both front and back and the good space, the cabin feels quite airy the dash and center console don't eat into the space and the cabin has decent width and good headroom in the back for my 184cm frame. In this respect it felt slightly more spacious than the C-class also on show. Other nice things in the interior were the fantastic click click feel of the metal ventilation and MMI controllers, the stunning virtual instrument display, the feel of the gearshift and the nice alcantara trim in the door panels as well as the nice sporty 3 spoke wheel. What didn't impress me and left me disappointed was the hollow feel of the ash pour wood trim (similar hollow feel to the C-class and no better) on both doors and dash, the center console plastic near the gearshift, with black ripple affect plastic that looks and felt cheapish, the plastic used for the air vents and lastly the cheap hard plastic used for the bottom of the doors and speaker boxes. I sat in this car and the C-class a number of times and in my opinion the C-class feels better built and more luxurious. The Mercedes has nicer stitched vinyl material used on the top of the doors and dash, while the Audi uses normal slush molded black foam backed vinyl. The Mercedes also has nicer feeling and classier metal look air vents and switches for electric windows and seats, whereas the Audi is all black plastic. The C-class full wood center console looked and felt classier than the A4 mostly plastic center console.
RS Q3, SQ5 and Q7:
The bright yellow RS Q3 on display certainly looked eye catching but it was a too tame for my tastes and I preferred the bigger SQ5 in the lovely bright blue metallic. This is the second time I have seen the bigger Q7 and actually now I am warming to it. It certainly looks smaller than the previous model.
That lovely tall Scottish lass (maybe about 175 to 180cm tall) standing close to the Q7 and A4.
New Audi R8:
This car looks so similar to the older R8 I had to look a number of times at it but mostly recognized the different rear lights and still think this car is a stunner.
BMW:
The BMW stand was mighty impressive, they had a fantastic line up of cars and together with Mercedes and Porsche was my favorite stands at the show. Most cars shown were M-cars and as well as the i8.
M2 Coupe:
This car car blew me away, I was gobsmacked how muscular it looked and it has some gorgeous body details. It was really difficult to get good shots with this car as there crowds of people taking photos of it and looking at the car. The nicest details were the butch rear haunches and bulging wheelarches, the huge chromed 4 tail pipes and lastly the massive front air intakes and aggressive front bulges.
New BMW 7-series:
I was very impressed, I like the look of the new 7-series. It looks like a slight evolution of F01 especially at the rear, but the car is more majestic, looks upper class with more chrome details. The new front end reminds me of the older E38 as the lights stretches all the way to the grill. The interior looks great, not really luxurious but more high tech and upper class version of other interior in a 3 series for instance. I couldn't unfortunately sit inside the car as it was locked, so couldn't properly evaluate the seat comfort and material quality.
BMW M5 and M6 matt colours:
They had the M5 and M6 in bright matt finish metallic colours. Certainly not too my taste but maybe some people will like them.
BMW i8:
A very interesting gold glitter coloured i8 was shown together with its plug in device.
Mercedes Benz:
Some interesting new models shown by Mercedes this year, from SUV's to saloons to sports cars.
AMG GT S:
They showed this drop dead gorgeous blood red AMG GT S this year, in my opinion its one of the most beautiful sports cars in production, really stunning details, I love this car too bits.
G-Class G500 4x4x2:
This car looked so macho and it was so high, towering over most cars at the show. Outrageous for sure, but a huge head turner. I am standing in front of one, I am 184cm tall and this thing must be over 2m tall it is huge.
C450 AMG:
The C450 AMG was shown, it looks like a halfway point between an AMG kitted C-class and the full fledged C63. I really do like it, great looking sports saloon.
GLE63 AMG Coupe:
The X6 M main rival was revealed and I was really impressed with the looks, I actually like this SUV alot, really nice front end and butch rear.
C300 Coupe and S500 Coupe:
The new C-class coupe looks fantastic in real life, much better than in photos. Indeed it does look alot like the S-class coupe from the rear, which is not a bad thing as the S-class coupe is the best looking coupe in the world.
S600 Maybach:
Not to be outdone by the new BMW 7-series also shown was the magnificent Maybach S600, such a majestic looking car with super luxurious interior.
