As weird as this may sound, it seems Porsche is working on a Porsche badged Volkswagen golf for 2012. Now, we know that the Volkswagen Golf is a huge success, but a Porsche version of the car seems like a totally absurd idea; unless of course Porsche is positioning itself to become more mainstream and compete with BMW.

Last week, Porsche officially submitted an offer to acquire shares of Volkswagen, which will give it total control of Germany’s largest auto maker. If the bid goes through, it’s obvious Porsche and Volkswagen will share even a larger number of their platforms, but a Porsche-Golf will definitely take away the factor that sets Porsche apart from other German luxury auto makers.

Very old rumor, just like the one that Porsche is working on a baby Cayenne.

And as well the one Porsche 928 successor is on the way. :usa7uh:

The industry rumors say 928 successor is definitely coming, and will be based on shortened Panamera platform, coming approx. 18-24 months after Panamera.
Also rumored in the industry circles: the next generation Cayenne will be much more on-road and less off-road oriented, will be much lighter, with lower stance & with more coupeish FX-ish / Q7-ish shape. Less SAV, more cross-over.

Yepp a new 928 is a no-brainer. If you develop a sedan you will most likely use the platform for a coupe. The Panamera is Porsche's biggest project in a long time and they will be taking as much advantage of it's technology as they can. They could really use a sports coupe in the upper 100k price range.

No not anymore, Porsche are dropping the baby Cayenne(the Porsche roxter). They are concentrating on the new Panamera...

There were no sub-Cayenne SUV planned. Never. The rumors derived from the new Cayenne leaked info (info about "smaller" (mainly lower) vehicle, more dynamic coupeish shape, lighter, less off-road yet more on-road oriented, much lighter, with true Porsche genes; but all this info were describing Mk2 Cayenne, not Roxster).

"Roxster" was a proposed (yet never confirmed) sub-Boxster speedster. An entry Porsche.

Regarding new 928: front-engined RWD / AWD Panamera-based GT is rumored to got green light already. Coming in 2011/12.

OHHHH, I heard wrong then...because i heard that Porsche were going to make a smaller version of the cayenne to match the audi q5, and they were going to call it the roxster...thanx anyway:usa7uh:

Yes, automotive magazines reported such rumors ... But my sources say otherwise. I got the info about more on-road-ish & coupeish Mk2 coupe & info about sub-Boxster vehicle way before Roxster rumors were published in magazines.

Also an interesting info: MB are reconsidering ML position. Next generation is rumored to be much more sporty & less utilitarian (GLK & GL will take utilitarian roles). More a lifestyle vehicle to fight FX Mk2, new Mk RX, new X6, Mk2 Cayenne etc.

Yeah, it does look a bit like a Triumph Stag .....only uglier ;)

BTW, Thanks for the thanks, I don't know what I did to deserve it :D .....I'll give you thanks too :usa7uh:

Rendered speculation: Porsche's hot hatch? The ultimate GTI? What!?!

974141977d31c5194b5a4b68ea89a5d6.webpWith impending European Union limits on carbon dioxide emissions, makers of high performance vehicles like Porsche have been scrambling to find a way to meet the new requirements (whatever they may be). One obvious way is to make smaller lighter cars, and German magazine AutoZeitung is reporting that Porsche will follow up the introduction of the Panamera sedan with small front-engined hatchback.

It wouldn't be the first such configuration from Stuttgart, although it seems likely to be smaller than the old 924/944 lineup. The magazine is reporting that the new car will use a flat 6 from the Boxster/Cayman with all-wheel drive on a VW platform. That engine choice would preclude the Golf platform since the boxer engine wouldn't fit in the transverse engine layout. So if this comes to pass, a variation of the Audi A4 architecture is likely to underpin the new model.

Another more likely option might be to use the Golf platform with a variation of the the R32 drivetrain. This would certainly provide the necessary performance and it wouldn't be out of line with what Porsche did with the Cayenne. MotorAuthority has a rendering of what such a car might look like, and it's definitely better than what we've seen recently in spy photos of the Panamera. This car would definitely be a lot closer in spirit to what a Porsche should be.
