Many magazines have asked the question and so far, outcome has been as follow :
- AMS : Porsche wins
- Autocar : Porsche wins (test available on the magazine's website, will try to post link later)
- Auto Express : Porsche wins (test available on the magazine's website)
- Motor Trend : Porsche wins (test available on the magazine's website)
... and then, today I read l'Argus (test available on their website in French as well) and surprise, the McLaren GT won !
Google translate of their conclusion :
Even faster in a straight line, as good in bends, better finished and equipped, and equipped with two - small- additional seats, the new 911 Turbo S objectively dominates the recent GT. But at this price point the choice of a model deviates from rational criteria, and the more intimate relationship that the McLaren establishes with its driver makes us prefer this less expected, more endearing proposition. Delivering more feel and authenticity at slower speeds, this McLaren GT does not forget good manners and pays itself the luxury, on a daily basis, of outdoing the Porsche in comfort and practicality. Come on, a little more effort in terms of finishing or technological equipment, and the victory will become unquestionable ...
And you, what's your opinion ?

Turbo S any day. The GT is just a big meh, just like the 570 GT. Unreliable and struggling with sales is what I have seen at McLarenlife forums.

The 992 Turbo S is a missile and more comparable to the 720S in performance.

I'm still dubious about the Mclaren GT. The only practical advantage it has over the Porsche is the ability to fit a set of golf clubs. Other than that, it's not the car that you can use to randomly pick up a friend or partner from the airport without prior discussion about the shape of their luggage.

The Mclaren GT isn't a car for everyone but like a 6-Series GT, it's the perfect car for some people.

Mclaren missed big with the GT.
But did they really? When it actually is what it says on the tin: a GT. They've already got 600LT, 720S and 765LT models to cover the super sports requirement?
Personally, I don't see the GT as being an F8 Tributo or Huracan EVO competitor. The aforementioned are that.

I don’t think it’s what the market expects or more importantly wants from a GT. The market place hears GT they think front engined, powerful, comfortable, compliant, stylish (812/DBS/wraith/Bentley C). To 95% of new buyers I don’t see how they look at the GT and be able to differentiate it from a 570S. Also, the GT market has never sold very well. I don’t see why Mclaren wanted in. Overall, fail.

Yeah, I see and like your point of view. Perhaps McLaren were a bit arrogant to try and pass off an n-th iteration of their mid-engined platform as a bonafide. On the other hand, I suppose they felt that they could sufficiently differentiate the GT as their GT alternative citing that the attributes of elegance, luxury, long-distance comfort and greater practicality aren't solely the preserve of the front-engined GT recipe.

Turbo S in Aventurine Green metallic/Mocca leather with the bicolor satin silver/anthracite split 5-spoke rims.
