718 Boxster/Cayman (982) Porsche 718 Spyder RS

The Porsche Boxster and Cayman are mid-engine two-seater sports cars manufactured and marketed by Porsche across four generations—as a two-door, two-seater roadster (Boxster) and a three-door, two-seater fastback coupé (Cayman). Since the introduction of the fourth generation in 2016, the two models have been marketed as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman.
WOW. It's going to be $$$$$$$. Open top racer on deck.

Edit: Car and Driver has the price:

The Spyder RS will carry a starting price tag of $162,150 when it begins arriving at dealerships in the spring of 2024.

The roof tarp looks like something out of the trash, wants to be cool and falls way short but the car itself must be "the" precision tool

The car looks great and no doubt will be brilliant, but I can't believe they chose to go with that roof mechanism in this day and age. That is either take off with it, or leave at home kind of affair. Also with the roof on it looks hilariously bad.

The whole point of the 987, 981 and 982 Spyder models is unapologetically geared around the open-top motoring experience. The whole ethos centers on the philosophy that this car should be driven top-down as much as possible and that the roof is there for inclement conditions, should the need arise.

If you want an automated roof then buy a 718 GTS 4.0. If you're more inclined to want to drive top-up then buy a GT4 RS.

This man gets it. This is a point A to A car. I have driven the regular spyder extensively. The roof and the manual mechanism is a part of the experience. You take your time with a car like this. It’s not a utility vehicle, far from.
One of the few pure driving experiences around.

My cousin went:
718 GTS 4 cylinder
992 Carrera S
Spyder
992 turbo cab
992 GTS

To conclude that nothing is like the spyder and proceeded re buying a PTS Irish green spyder.

If you know, you know.

The damn thing f#cked up my view on all cars, as it became a reference vehicle , nothing holds up a candle to it.

Possibly Ferrari, lambo or mclaren ( haven’t tried those )

The thing is the perception of speed , a spyder on relatively low speed feels as thrilling as the 992 turbo balls to the wall.

I rather drive slow and be thrilled than driving insane speeds to get the pulse moving.

And that’s taking about the regular spyder , you can imagine the RS!!

Did you notice though that the "cabin cover" on the RS is different and significantly more fiddly than even that of the regular 718 Spyder?
Cements its purpose as emergency use only. If I was to buy one, I'd never put the roof up (except if caught in a downpour) and even would keep it stowed when garaged; I'd use a full car cover in any event.

Yep i noticed it for sure, I hope people find it such a pain in the ass, so they don’t order and I can get my allocation 🤣

Little news: The embargo for reviews of the GT4 Spyder RS ends on August 7 at 3PM PST.
