Pininfarina Pininfarina To Privately Show PF0 Electric Hypercar During Monterey

Pininfarina S.p.A. (short for Carrozzeria Pininfarina) is an Italian car design firm and coachbuilder, with headquarters in Cambiano, Turin, Italy. The company was founded by Battista "Pinin" Farina in 1930. On 14 December 2015, the Indian multinational giant Mahindra Group acquired 76.06% of Pininfarina S.p.A. for about €168 million. Pininfarina To Privately Show PF0 Electric Hypercar During Monterey

Prospective buyers have already seen design images of the "ultra-low volume, ultra-luxurious" machine.
It’s certainly a good time to be alive if you’re a fan of high-performance machines and don’t have a problem with electrification. There’s the Mercedes-AMG Project One, the Aston Martin Valkyrie, and the three-seat McLaren BP23, but let’s keep in mind Pininfarina is preparing its own hypercar that currently goes by the “PF0” codename. Unlike the others we’ve mentioned, the PF0 will eschew the combustion engine altogether to adopt a fully electric powertrain.

Newly founded Automobili Pininfarina has already dropped a couple of somewhat vague design sketches of the hypercar in question and has also been showing images of the concept to prospective buyers behind closed doors. First in Rome, now in New York, these private sessions allow potential customers to get an idea of what to expect from the production model, which is slated to arrive towards the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, during next month’s Monterey Car Week, Automobili Pininfarina will organize private VIP viewings of the FP0, providing a small group of people with the best look yet at what is being described as an “ultra-low volume ultra-luxury electric hypercar.” It will cost between $2 million and $2.5M and will have some impressive technical specifications to justify the asking price.

According to preliminary reports, the PF0 will be blessed with four electric motors providing a combined output of 2,000 horsepower in a hypercar set to weigh less than 2,000 kilograms (4,409 pounds). Performance is expected to be right up there with top-tier models, with the sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) to take under 2 seconds and the 0-186 mph (0-300 kph) task to be completed in under 12 second before maxing out at 250 mph (402 kph).

With the PF0 taking the shape of a purely electric vehicle, range is very important even if this is a performance-oriented model. Using a battery pack incorporated in the center tunnel, the first production model from Automobili Pininfarina will allegedly cover up to 310 miles (500 kilometers) between charges.

The PF0 will be followed by an array of more affordable electric vehicles – including SUVs - which are also going to be built in limited numbers.

Pininfarina Electric Hypercar Looks Sleek In New Teasers

If you're rich, there's a chance to see it in August.
Automobili Pininfarina continues to be light on firm details about its upcoming PF0 electric hypercar, but three new renderings provide a fresh look at the vehicle's styling. In addition, Nick Heidfeld, a former Formula One driver and current competitor in Formula E, has signed on as the automaker's development driver.

The sketches depict the PF0 as a low-slung coupe with a large, swept-back windshield and prominent fenders. The headlights extend across the front end in a skinny strip.
“The design of PF0 will espouse purity, beauty, and innovation. Working closely with Pininfarina SpA we have created three new images that give prospective owners an exciting preview of the design features we will introduce on this incredible hypercar," Luca Borgogno, Automobili Design Director, said in the release of the new renderings.

Pininfarina is better known for its designs than as a full automaker, and the company wants its first product to be a worldbeater. Four electric motors would produce a total of 2,000 horsepower (1,491 kilowatts). The firm projects that the PF0 could hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in less than two seconds and achieve a top speed above 250 mph (402 kph). The batteries would provide over 300 miles (483 kilometers) of range, although presumably not with the pedal to the floor.

Pininfarina will hold a closed-door, invitation-only showing of the PF0 during Monterey Car Week in August, and it'll only be open to folks who will potentially be able to pay the roughly $2.5 million price for the electric hypercar. The company will begin real-world testing in early 2019, so we'll likely see spy shots leak out. Deliveries will start in late 2020.

After the PF0, Pininfarina intends to expand its lineup by adding an electric SUV. It would be somewhat more affordable at $185,000.

Mahindra purchased Pininfarina for $185 million in 2015. It created Automobili Pininfarina to be an automaker and retained Pininfarina SpA as a design firm.

Just as the Cranium part of the brain has grown bigger with the evolution of the homo sapien diet, bigger neck muscles will evolve as electric cars become more mainstream :D

Starting a new chapter with an electric bang.

Automobili Pininfarina has already announced its ambitions to become a full-fledged automaker, and we’ve just been given a preview of how that new chapter will begin. During the rousing festival of automotive grandeur that is the Monterey Car Week, the company invited us to glimpse its nearly 2,000-horsepower, 0-60 in sub-two-seconds, electric hypercar in the concept-flesh.

While we were asked not to take or share live images – you’ll have to wait until the next Geneva Motor Show for that – we did get up close and personal with the concept car, which Luca Borgogno, Automobili Pininfarina design director, tells us is 90 percent of the car we’ll see once it’s unveiled.

"We’re still making little tweaks, some changes to improve performance of course, and aerodynamics, but this is 90 percent of what you’ll see." The car, and future Automobili Pininfarina models take inspiration from the Cistalia.

Our first impression? Pure silken super sports car. It reminds us a little of what modern versions of the McLaren P1, and Ferrari 458 Italia would look like, which surely is a good start. But it’s also got an abundance of presence; it’s concept-low, wider than Nebraska, and longer than the Las Vegas Strip.
"This is my favorite part," Paolo Pininfarina, grandson of the founder, Battista "Pinin" Farina, says gesticulating from the roof down along the body just behind the door cutoff, a known high-pressure zone for any car with serious grunt, especially one that’s pushing nearly 500 ponies to each wheel. There’s a separation from the body that allows air to pass, a little reminiscent – but not nearly as extreme – as the Ford GT’s.

It’s widely believed that Automobili Pininfarina will develop a car based on a Rimac electric-chassis, but Borgogno says we’ll have to wait just a little longer for official partner agreement announcements.

The new design image you see shows off the rear of the car, one that features a prominent gulf, flanked by two sections of a floating wing. The wings have flaps that function as an aerobrake, and we’re told there will be two or three fixed positions for the speed-scrubbers.
The front end has sharp LED lights, flanked by an air intake on the outside ends. A continuous light bar runs along the front of the hood, a graphic that indicates the future-leaning ambitions of this next-generation, Cambiani, Italy-built hypercar.

Head of Automobili Pininfarina, Michael Perschke, says the PF0 will be the first of many future cars to come, but that — beyond its ultra-limited production of just 150 cars, and $2 million price tag — extra exclusivity comes from the fact that at the moment, there are no other pure-electric hypercars, only hybrids. The pure BEV hyper is estimated to have a range of 310 miles (500 kilometers) when it launches late in 2020, and a top speed in excess of 250 mph (402 kph).

The aggressive timeline is an ambitious one, though interested parties would be better off getting involved early on in the process. We predict the price will rise as Automobili Pininfarina gets closer to delivering its first order.
