Fabled design studio Pininfarina has been posting significant losses for the past couple of years and this year is shaping up to be the worst yet. For the first nine months of the year Pininfarina posted a loss of €39.1 million, up from a €16.3 million loss in the same period last year. Officials are now in the process of drawing up plans to partner with other industrial groups to help reduce its losses.
Past partnerships include deals like the Pininfarina Sverige joint-venture, which was formed with Volvo to build the C70 coupe-cabrio. Pininfarina’s board of directors are working with consulting firms Roland Berger and Rothschilds to help develop the new plans, which are expected to be revealed on Friday.
Some of the details include plans to search for new manufacturing contracts, reports Automotive News. This means that we can expect to see more new cars wearing the distinctive Pininfarina lettering on their flanks.
Pininfarina is also planning to help design cars for more companies. Recent works include Maserati’s GranTurismo (pictured), Ferrari’s 599 GTB Fiorano and the GM-Daewoo Lacetti.
