A Vantage with a vengeance
The late night debuts continue as Aston Martin has taken the wraps off the Vantage GT3.
Described as the "most potent and uncompromising Vantage to date," the GT3 features a carbon fiber wide body kit with modified bumpers, revised side skirts and extended fenders. The car also a number of aerodynamic components including a front splitter, a rear diffuser and a prominent rear wing.
While most special editions wouldn't even go that far, Aston Martin wasn't satisfied so they added a carbon fiber hood, a black mesh grille, ceramic coated tailpipes and 19-inch forged alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
The sporty styling continues in the cabin as there's a carbon fiber center stack with touch-sensitive controls. Other notable highlights include an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, carbon fiber sports seats, leather door pull straps and an infotainment system with GPS navigation.
A 6.0-liter V12 engine resides under the hood and produces approximately 600 PS (441 kW / 591 bhp) and 625 Nm (460 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed automated manual transmission which should enable the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds before hitting an estimated top speed of 297km/h (185 mph).
Speaking of performance, the Vantage GT3 has a track-tuned suspension - with revised springs and dampers - and a modified Adaptive Damping System with three different modes: Normal, Sport and Track. The car also has magnesium inlet manifolds, a titanium exhaust system and a magnesium torque tube with a carbon fiber propeller shaft. Other highlights include a limited-slip differential and Brembo carbon ceramic brakes.
The Vantage GT3 is also 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the V12 Vantage S thanks to a lithium-ion battery, carbon fiber door casings and a plethora of other weight saving measures. Customers can even order a carbon fiber roof and a polycarbonate rear window to further enhance the weight reductions.
Production will be limited to 100 units and the first deliveries are slated for the third quarter of 2015. However, it won't be offered in the United States or China.
