I just realized how idiotic we sound (innocently) when a "brilliant" mind, or rather one that thinks itself more astute than the rest of the world, makes fun of us in this way specifically and wants to see our stupid faces.

Great so it's not one making fun of some members, but several.
If your friends whoever they are, know about your aliases, what is the need to open a thread "new member from ..."; totally unnecessary and free for the rest who plays the role of idiot greeting and welcoming someone who has been here for years and who wants to share and advocate for social and political issues in a forum under triple anonymity !,
You should do something about it and nominate yourself politically or create a movement to fight properly for the convictions you profess and not write arguing in an internet forum about it

I have no desire to go further down this rabbit hole, but in the interest of being frank, I initially did not know that this was Betty 4.0 until Big Sam's 2nd or 3rd post in the Random Thoughts thread. And frankly, I am a bit annoyed as the David Brent handle has not been banned, so I don't know why the additional handles.
All that said, that annoyance was relatively fleeting in the grand GCF scheme. I generally am avoiding most political discussion because as time and time again has shown nothing gets solved, there is relatively little deeper meaning gained, and, to put it gently, it becomes an echo-chamber.
To put it less gently, it's a messy circle-jerk. There are other outlets on the interwebs for that. Hell, outrage, either manufactured or otherwise from either side of the political/societal spectrum, is an online industry that's supported by the number of clicks and eyes. My cynical side of me sometimes makes me wonder if that's why it's been allowed on here and why some generally repugnant topics were given as much slack as it has been given. Is it for the clicks?
In the end, I come here to talk about cars and, occassionally, pretty ladies because I like cars and pretty ladies, often not in that order. Admittedly, in the Covid thread, I will add something if it's worthwhile to add, but I let some of the far-fetched things go because I just don't have the energy to engage if there are those that have their heels so far dug in.

As previously indicated, it's more fresh content that sites need, not pages and pages of diatribe in 9 year old threads. I doubt anyone's clicking the banner ads, so I very much doubt revenue raised from impressions within any such discussion is anything other than micro-cents. Despite recent insinuations, it's also not about not wanting to ban people to help traffic either, for the same reasons.... we probably wouldn't spam ban as many new accounts if that was the case!
Besides that... it's easy enough to promote equally "passionate" discussion within threads that are more relevant to the site - I mean... slagging off a new Mercedes or praising a new BMW seems a pretty effective way of generating posts from my point of view... we don't need political rants whilst we have the EQS and iX!
