X6 Motor Trend - 2009 BMW X6: Perfectly pointless

The original point of the article was that though pointless (like a CLS), the X6 is a tremendous engineering effort that makes is a sheer lust object. Its all about the subjectives, not the objectives. The X6 will be a hit just like other similar pointless vehicles that came before it. Some BMW fans here got way bent out of shape over nothing. The article makes perfect sense, but it wasn't a slam on BMW or the X6, it was more of rational look at an irrational product.

Seriously wonder where all this rational thinking was when the CLS was released.

The same thing was said by many people (including me) when the CLS came out. People buy the CLS because they think it is more stylish/beautiful compared to an E-class saloon. It is in essence, a fashion statement.

People will buy the X6 for the same reason: because they think it is more stylish/beautiful compared to the X5.

I don't think anybody would argue with that. Whether people think the X6 is good looking is more of the issue.
