Just before the official introduction of the BMW i3, MINI previews the next generation of the MINI hatchback with the VISION Concept. The production version will be very similar to the concept, but many details, like the bumpers, side mirrors and the front overhang, will be different. On top of that, Anders Warming, Head of MINI Design, says that the design cues that are previewed with the VISION Concept will be featured in more models in the MINI line-up.
What we see in this concept, is the past blending in with the future. The hexagonal radiator grille, for example, is inspired by the classic Mini and integrates both the bumper and auxiliary lights. The futuristic elliptical full-LED headlights have outer ring that emits a consistent light playing the role of the daytime driving light function. The overall shape is not very different from the first two generations, the R53 and R56, but it's more sporty and muscular.
The interior of the VISION Concept is an evolution of the current production interior design, with a large circular multi-instrument in the center of the dashboard. The VISION, being a concept, can have many extravagant details, like the elastic fabric straps on the insides of the doors, arranged like the stripes of the Union Jack flag, but such details will be filtered out in the production version.
The MINI VISION Concept is a beautiful concept, true to the definition of the word "concept". It previews both the upcoming MINI hatch and a wide variety of design cues that we will be seeing in many future MINI models. So, it's not hard to imagine the, not so distant, future MINI line-up, and judging by our first thoughts, it will be amazing!
