Mercedes-Benz tops Consumer Reports' tests of luxury SUVs
Yonkers, New York - The new Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and R-Class luxury SUVs have rated highest in Consumer Reports' tests, besting vehicles from Volvo, Audi and Cadillac. The study will appear in the magazine's November issue.
The GL- and R-Class were tested against the Volvo XC90, Audi Q7 and Cadillac Escalade; all of the vehicles posted "Very Good" scores, but the Mercedes vehicles received a higher number of points.
Consumer Reports did not recommend any of the SUVs, because they are either too new to have sufficient owner reliability data, or have below-average predicted reliability. The magazine only recommends vehicles that have performed well in its tests, have at least average predicted reliability based on a survey of subscribers, and have performed at least adequately if crash-tested or included in a government rollover test.
In another test, Consumer Reports also tested all-wheel drive versions of four previously-tested sedans: the Volkswagen Passat 3.6 4Motion, BMW 325xi, Volvo CX70 and Subaru Outback 3.0R VDC. Of that group, the Passat received an "Excellent" overall road test score, while the others received "Recommended" status.
