New 650hp V8 + 30hp PHEV seems solid.

Like the G63 AMG I guess (only the G has less power)

Excellent news. Excellent.

The new V8 could probably be considerably more powerful than just 650bhp

This is always the case. Has always been and will always be.

Mercedes AMG is saying the new M179 V8 is more powerful than the previous GT Black Series which was 720hp. This new engine could very well be past the 800hp mark by itself.

Could should would

Should be capable. But it'll be in various states of tune I guess.
The most powerful variants undoubtedly for the Mega GT.

I guess it'll use a similar e-turbo set-up as the M256 and the Porsche 3.7L twin turbo to be a torque monster.

The S class would definitely be tuned more for torque.

Very exciting to see how it develops. Then there's also the mystery V12. I beg and pray.

What?!? What will it be then??

They will launch it with the new more powerful flat plane crank V8 with Mild Hybrid tech. It should be capable of at least 750PS and with the same tech as the CLA engine, allowing some EV driving at low speeds.
With this engine and taking out the heavy battery tech the car should be 150 to 200kg lighter. Benefits for the handling, boot space and the economy wont suffer in my opinion, plus the performance should match or even better the full hybrid especially at higher speeds when the battery power will fall away on the full hybrid and the car will only produce 612PS while this flat plane engine will still produce its full 750PS.

IMO they should be done with the system across the lineup. The GT 2dr coupe weighs more than a full size pickup truck. Too much weight penalty for the power it creates. Also I never got used to the two separate power plants to begin with. I much prefer what Porsche has done with their system, especially in the Turbo S. Hopefully the new V8 has a similar setup.

The regular V8 GT 2-door models don't weigh that much do they?

My dealer told not to order the SL, it’s neither fish nor fowl.

For comfort my A217 is best car, If I want something sporty, a used R190 is the perfect choice or a R197.

Right now the R232 is value for the money suicide, even the ones on the second hand market. Combine that with the documented electrical/drivetrain issues, it leaves you a car that no well-informed buyer would want.

The prices of the used ones are in free fall, it’s interesting to see where they’ll find the bottom.

I am curious what will happen with the SL680 Maybach, I guess It’ll burn money as well.
But there are currently almost no cars on the market.

BTW This shows us that they placed the car in no mans land.

MJ25 has been improved regarding electrical issues, but the early ones are mostly lemons.

The new SL’s still have electrical issues? Hopefully Mercedes can correct this and lower the price and bring that SL53 to the table. Otherwise the SL won’t see another generation which would be tragic.

The article @laylandi posted says the charge port is missing on the test car, where a charge port was located on the current S63 E.
It indicates that the mild hybrid system will be used. It also says the new V8 is "much more powerful." The S63 E-Performance stands at 802ps (791hp) / 1055lb-ft (1430nm), the torque on the facelift version most likey will drop but with the weight loss, it will help better the ride quality, and driving dynamics.

The videos I saw clearly show that the Crossplane V8 stays, but as can be seen on the AM this engine can produce over 700hp.

I think Mercedes Benz should use the strongest version of the engine in their own cars, instead of AM.
