In Afrikaans we say ag foeitog but it’s the Kliertje that’s precious.

Ach, foei toch is how we say it here so it's exactly the same minus the spelling, which is awesome if you ask me

The part you find precious (it is) is typical mmodern day Dutch; putting -je after a word to make it smaller I guess.

Cinematic screens aren't on anyone's radar. Their cancellation in the 7 series is even a possibility.
When BMW used a large kidney grille on the X7, you were the one who mocked it the most. And when the kidneys were illuminated, you were the one who mocked it again.

Now you're defending Mercedes' massive, illuminated grille, claiming it looks fantastic.

If Mercedes offers a theater screen option in the S-Class, you'll be its biggest advocate again. Because everyone knows how hypocritical you are.

Upmarket was meant in another way, like quality of used materials, appearance etc. I doubt very much the next S will have a theatre screen for the back passengers. Size wise I don’t think it will follow the 7.
I think large screens inside cars have research saturation in China. Any copying by Merc would simple be 2-3 years behind. Who knows, attitudes in China might also be changing like the new legislationi towards door handles that are not flush.

All this sounds like the W224 should probably be a step backwards to return to the W222.

If you check the interiors of all new Chinese cars, they look so similar with large 15inch Tesla like screens, 2spoke wheels with roller wheel controls and wireless charging pads for 2 phones just under the screen on the center console.

Eventually I believe people will become tired of this layout and would want something that is more aesthetically pleasing. Retractable screens in my opinion will make a comeback and some buttons and trim panels (wood, metal etc.).

Talking about the Chinese government now taking on the role of the “adult in the room” by banning retractable exterior door handle.

I just had both the front door locks on my barely 5 years old CLA 35 replaced. It’s really disappointing that Mercedes still haven’t figured out how to design and produce door locks that are weatherproof and reliable.

Absolutely agreed, more and langer screens, like we can see in BMW 7 series, would be a step backwards.
I made a conscious choice for normal, non-flush handles. No matter what anyone says, to me they are an unacceptable security risk. Kind of sad, MB are using these more and more…

The retractable screen in the back of the 7er doesn't count as a built in dashboard screen. It's an actual full screen entertainment system for the rear, which is completely different from the "more and more screens" trend.
More and more screens is 100% MB territory.

It's actual luxury for the rear passenger being driven by a chauffeur. A relation of mine has a 7er with this screen and a chauffeur, and he says it's extremely useful to work with a big 8k screen in front. I have very little doubt MB will do something similar next gen. Two tiny screens in the rear seats isn't exactly sexy anymore, although this is how Rolls still does it, but they want to be understated and classy which is different from the German more high tech approach.
