Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard – Auto Expo 2016 Live

Is the costliest Mercedes sold in India.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard is the first vehicle that met the highest ballistic protection standard (commercial armoured sedans) – VR 9. Externally, it’s identical to the regular Mercedes S-Class. It is for the first time that the S 600 Guard is available both as a 4-seater and a 5-seater. The car was launched in May last year in India for a price of INR 8.9 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

The base structure of the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard, which is integrated into the bodyshell at production stage, features a specific reinforcement for extra strength and stability. The protective elements are smartly integrated and overlapped to keep away the fact that it’s the ‘Guard’ variant from outsiders, and also, to make the passengers feel the car as luxurious as a regular Mercedes S-Class. Good stopping power is ensured by larger brakes with six piston calipers.

To mask the additional weight gained from the security modifications, the air suspension has been toughened up. The wheels are shod with exclusive Michelin PAX run-flat tyres that provide a 30 km driving range in damaged condition. There’s also an automatic fire suppression system and an emergency fresh air system in the cabin.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Guard is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol engine that generates 390 kW (530 hp) and 830 Nm of torque. For safety reasons, the top speed has been limited to 210 km/h. Power is sent to the wheels via a 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission.

^ Yes, that's in the pipeline, perhaps even based on the 9G. :)

"What about the twin-turbocharged V-12? AMG has assumed responsibility to nurture and develop this fascinating powerplant not just for AMG, but also for Mercedes-Benz and Maybach. “We know what needs to be done to keep it [compelling],” Moers tells us. And he provides a few helpful hints: All-wheel-drive capability is one of these steps, and delivering a meaningful power gap between the V-8 and the V-12 is another. It’s clear that things won’t get boring at AMG headquarters in picturesque Affalterbach, just north of Stuttgart, any time soon." Source Car and Driver

The new converter might be able to handle the humongous V12 torque.

I hope the meaningful power gap between v8 and v12 engines means more than 700 hp

Me too! We now know that MB has no choice but to marry 4Matic to the V12s because BMW has done it with the new M760i models. I guess 4matic, 9G and a new V12 is too much to ask for at facelift time huh?

Might be significantly less than the 830 hp of the Pagani Huayra BC, though. Mercedes-Maybach might get another power level above the S 600, perhaps as S 650 at facelift time. :)

In addition, the biturbo AMG 6.0-liter V12 will go through some changes as Pagani’s engineers will squeeze an extra 100 horsepower over the current 730 hp. There’s no word about the torque figure, but obviously this one too will increase compared to Huayra’s 738 pound-feet (1,000 newton meters).

With 830 hp in a body that weighs just 2,645 lbs (1,200 kg), you can imagine the BC will be substantially faster than the standard Huayra which needs 3.3 seconds until 60 miles (96 kilometers) per hour.

Pagani Huayra BC getting 100 hp more, 330 lbs less

I agree.

A Maybach S600 S should also be a part of the facelit. All with optional 4Matic. It would help with sales in places like NYC, Chicago, Boston etc.
