Golf GTI? Seriously? S3? Hellloooo...

Check the vid before crying about no Audi. They clearly wanted three different cars with different powertrain and different power level.

No Audi needed here. They've got the A45 AMG for that.

I agree 100% with Klier. That said, I do 'feel you' for the S3 gets left out of these tests too often. And the Golf GTI may be a great car (we all love it) BUT it is simply and factually NOT a Premium car in this segment, a Hot Hatch yes, but not a premium segment contender. So it's actually a bit stupid this mixed test IMO. Maybe on the other hand we, the consumer can as per test judge for ourselves if we pay too much for 'Premium'

Edit:
IMHO the A-class may have THE premium Badge on it's nose, but it's has nothing on the Golf when it comes to anything else that should put it above the Golf. The Golf 7 is more premium orientated in certain areas than the baby Benz...that's just how I see it and how I feel it, not my fault M-B made it that way. This segemnt is getting confusing - hence the mixed tests!???
OR is VAG just factually that far ahead in this segment?

Tester: "The Golf feels better build" Ahem, Herr. Dr. Zetsche:pompous::sneaky:

Funny how you call yourself a "germancarfan" but hate Mercedes, the image of german cars. Are not all premium cars only about badge? What does the Golf have so much better? Peugeot 308 is bounds better than a Golf.

Huh? False accusation my friend.;) I am the last person on this planet earth and on GCF to come close to hating Mercedes-Benz. Rest assured, stay calm, come back to reality and know this. The Mercedes-Benz brand, their products, history and innovative spirit is the essence of the German car Industry. The W222 is a window into tomorrrow and the SLS is the car I drool about to this day. Just like BMW or Audi they certainly don't do everyting perfect, the A+B-class IMHO is cars only called Mercedes-Benz by the badge on their noses, just like the rebadged Renault Panel Van that is called an M-B becuase it has the industries MOST coveted badge on it's nose. Wake up and smell the roses before you judge me, who are you to judge anyway!? I mean WTF!?? I am a realist and M-B is a reality of The Best or Nothing / Engineered like no other car in the world. that is how my late Benz crazed dad tought me. I believe it to this day. But A/B-class!? Really!? It's a pure business decision at getting the numbers up, it's called: Survival in short. Smart was suppose to be it, it failed hence the A+B-class was the most sensible business decision. I can see the cheap rebadged "Renault" in an A-class for I owned W203's that was real M-B's and the M-B's of old that my dad owned. But no person can for the love of money EVER even try to convince me the A+B class is a real Mercedes-Benz, BS!

I can't wait to hear your opinion on the next generation FWD 1 Series.

Read posts where I mention this exact scenario, I will feel the same way about the UKL 1er as I feel about the A-class;)(y)
MINI is made by BMW, begs the question: Does that make it a BMW?

Hummmmmm.....is there any supporting information that makes this connection? I am not aware of such links between a Renault and the A-class.
Renault engine;) And will we ever know how much Renault is involved in A/B-class development, production, FWD platform engineering etc? The answer is no, these things are better kept under the radar.

Edit: Collaboration (M-B + Renault) Don't be surprised when the next gen. Renault Koleos/Nissan Qashqai & Juke has the same 4-Matic drivetrain option as the A-class.

Naas why do you refuse to accept Renault was NOT involved in the development of the A/B class. The deal was signed up far too late and Mercedes went ahead with the MFA architecture by themselves in the absence of being able to find a suitable partner. These deliberations are part of their reason they were so late to the compact SUV and hatchback segments. You're almost as bad as KA when it comes to this point, harping on about something that is simply factually incorrect.

Now whether or not Renault uses the MFA platform in their newer offerings is another story.

Ever since it was launched this summer, the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG has been put to the test against its current nearest competitors and, even though it doesn't have a true direct challenger yet, that hasn't stopped car magazines to pair all kinds of hot hatches from other manufacturers against it.

This time it's Which Car's turn, who paired the smallest AMG model with the usual BMW M135i, but also with the much cheaper and less-powered Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The comparison is doomed from the start when it comes to the performance of each model, since the AMG can pretty much dance around both the Golf and the 1-Series both on the track and off of it when it comes to what a hot hatch should really do (perform, that is, ed), but the Brits from Which Car decided to put them head to head anyway.

We didn't manage to understand what was the original purpose of the comparo or who the winner is in the end, but we guess it's understandable that every chance to watch the supercar-fast A45 AMG is one to take and not pass.

Why the heck doesn't someone test the A45 against the TT RS? I know it is old, but isn't it still for sale.
