McLaren P1 breaks Kyalami lap record by 4s. -
As most of you 'Petrol Heads' know, we were fortunate enough to have witnessed a breathtaking work of art this weekend on South African soil, known as the legendary McLaren P1. The McLaren P1 came to participate in the Rogue Rally. See the article for more information!
The Rogue Rally wasnot the only plan that Super car legend Justin Davaris, SAP-Africa and McLaren Automobile had in store for the P1 while it was in our amazing country. They wanted to destroy the current production lap record for the fastest time a production car can achieve around the iconic Kyalami Race Track. The current record was 1:47 set by Euwen in a Mclaren MP4-12C. Mclaren's racing God, Chris Goodwin, came down to put his skills to the test. New standard road tyres were slapped onto the P1 and off he sped to see what times he could achieve. First lap was just to warm the tyres and engine. In the 2nd lap he managed a 1:48 with ease. The 3rd lap came and went like he was in the zone and he managed a 1:44. Having already beat the record he still wanted to shave a second or two off his time, so out he goes again, this time pushing this incredible car to its limit and he achieving a 1:43. Beating the record by a full 4 seconds. He has done it! We have a new record at Kyalami by my hero Chris Goodwin.
