Seems like if you want to buy a mid engine super car, the chances of it combusting in public is pretty high.

can some1 explain to me why this is happening to mid engined supercars? too much heat near fuel tanks?

Is there any evidence that this happens more in mid-engined supercars or is that when a four-door hatchback catches fire it rarely makes the news?

My first ever car, a Ford Fiesta 1.0 litre, caught fire.

You would think these high tech and very expensive mid engined super cars which has been designed to be near the best of the best with the utmost attention to details, will not suffer from such embarrassing and potentially life threatening faults.

I think McLaren's engineers - a.k.a. "the bright sparks" - took the brief of "take the fight to Ferrari as close as possible" a little too literally. I wonder if anyone got fired for this?
At the time, the driver of this particular 12C was said to be hot on the heels of a 458. The best form of flattery is imitation I'm told. I'm warming to the idea...

As much as I loved my Ford Fiesta, I wouldn't really call it a "supercar".

Now I kid you not, apparently that hue of red is called Volcano Red by McLaren! Ironic much?

Moments earlier, a passer-by was heard to exclaim "what a hot colour!" Sorry, I just had the burning desire to share...

These mid engine cars should have big big radiators and big big fans to help dissipate heat in traffic. The other reason is the fuel line rubber hoses are not the correct specification and the perish prematurely.

What would interest me more is what the car was doing at the time, like was it stuck in traffic, cruising along at modest speeds or going a mach 1? As for an opinion of more mid-engined super cars suffer this fate more than a normal car, one is more news worthy than the other but I still reckon it might be true due to the fact their very design and spec is pushing the envelop compared to your average motor.
