New lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife
Porsche has set another new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in cooperation with Manthey-Racing. The Porsche GT2 RS MR with 515 kW (700 hp) completed a lap of the 20.6-kilometre long circuit in 6:40.33 minutes. No other road-legal vehicle has ever been so fast on ‘The Green Hell’ track. Lars Kern was at the wheel of the sports car.

I wouldn't call it a record for production cars. Modified road legal cars? Sure. Surprised it beat the P1 LM.

Yeah, it broke the McLaren P1 LM's road legal car record, not the SVJ production car record so Lambo can breath a sigh of relief.

Porsche AG does own 51% of Manthey-Racing, so they could probably make a compelling case to classify this as a production car.

Isn't Porsche preparing a more track-focused GT2 RS? I think I've seen spy shots of it a awhile ago. To sit between GT2 RS and 935.

According to sebastian vittel(youtube user) the modifications are:

-new manthey aero kit (diffusor, wing, aero canard front)
-kw suspension spezial
-michelin Cup 2 R

Could Manthey Racing be considered a performance division of Porsche almost like AMG to Mercedes and M to BMW?

Maybe in near future. But GT Porsche division is on a whole another level than AMG and M....Way another level...

So it’s a production car but not stock. I am unsure how I feel about this record.

Most production cars can be tuned to perform better by adding stiffer suspension, front lip, the best racing tyres and other bits that potentially makes it I’ll suited to daily driving.

A clubsport based on what a few members say.
One of the assumptions (what I assume as well) is that the camoed, track-only GT2 RS test car is supposed to be a testbed of Porsche's entry for the new GT2 racing class in 2019 or 2020. Below is a video of the car.

I have a strong feeling that Sport Auto will get this Manthey-testcar for a quick Hockenheimring-lap... Probably for a new record as well. :)
