KTM KTM Planning X-bow with Audi 2.5 TFSI from TT RS and RS 3

In the world of boutique brands building exotic cars with Audi engines, few are cooler than the X-bow from motorcycle manufacturer KTM. This track-day special offers a futuristic and lightweight racing tub-based chassis with power from Audi’s 2.0 TFSI. And while news at Geneva was all about the new X-bow GT complete with windscreen, EVO Magazine has also confirmed that the company is working on a new version powered by the same Audi 2.5 TFSI 5-cylinder that powers the TT RS and RS 3.

Chatting with EVO Magazine, KTM CEO Stefan Pierer stated, “Audi is offering us the five-cylinder engine platform. In race usage we’ve already been thinking about a stronger engine. This one sounds good and performance-wise, you can get up to 480 hp.”
Pierer went further, confirming this is more than just talk. “We are running the first prototypes and you may see it within the next year in some specific races. That five-cylinder engine is very compact and fits perfectly in our chassis with a little extra wheelbase. We have some prototypes with a twin-clutch gearbox, too.”

As if the 295-hp tuned 2.0 TFSI and manual gearbox weren’t already mightily impressive in the X-bow, a 2.5 TFSI churning 280 hp paired with what sounds like Audi’s S tronic (DSG) gearbox should be insane. In testing, Car & Driver Magazine was able to get a heavier TT RS with 350 hp version of that engine and DSG transmission below 4 seconds in a 0-60 run. We can only imagine how fast the lighter mid-engine and rear-wheel drive X-bow might be with a similar configuration.

With 300 hp and manual gearbox the X-Bow R did 0-100 kph in 4,1 sec and lapped the Sachsenring as fast as the R8 GT. I can only imagine what it would do with DSG and 350 hp...
