Kovalainen wants Renault to forget about Alonso
14 November 2006

Heikki Kovalainen can't wait to get back into action for RenaultF1. The 25-year-old Renault driver will replace Fernando Alonso as the team's test driver, alongside Giancarlo Fisichella. Kovalainen is confident he can show a strong performance next season.

Kovalainen is unmoved by the fact he will follow up double world champion Fernando Alonso at Renault. "I am familiar with the car and team. The biggest difference next year is probably that there will be more media around me compared to this year," said Kovalainen. "I want to throw out Fernando's shoes as quickly as possible and replace them with mine in the Renault cockpit."

Unlike Mika Häkkinen and Kimi Räikkönen, Heikki Kovalainen is a very open and easygoing lad. But that's due to the fact Kovalainen comes from the North he believes. "I come from the North of Finland, that's probably the main difference between me and the other Finnish F1 drivers. They say that we're much more open to others in the North."

Big shoes to fill.

2 times WC, multiple record breaker, defeater of Schumacher, starting with a ruined uncompetitive team and working/contributing into making them the very best.
