XK Jaguar reveals updated XK and X-Type

The Jaguar XK is a two-door 2+2 grand tourer manufactured and marketed by Jaguar Cars from 1996–2012 and by Jaguar Land Rover from 2013–2014 in hatchback coupé and convertible body styles, across two generations. The XK was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1996 and was discontinued in July 2014.

Despite its money troubles Jaguar is plugging away at the model updates, this time revealing enhanced versions of the XK and X-Type to usher in the 2008 model year. The XK coupe gets a new antenna mounted into the rear spoiler, new aluminum or wooden trim and chrome highlights for the controls, while the high-performance supercharged XKR gets new 20in double five-spoke Senta alloy wheels, Jaguar’s premium stereo and bright finish alloy pedals as standard.

53106_c_jag.jpgThe XKR features the same 4.2L supercharged V8 as the outgoing version, which outputs 420bhp and 560Nm of torque. The performance coupe is capable of a 0-60mph time of just 4.9 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 155mph. Thanks to its all aluminum construction, the coupe is not only stiffer and more agile but it undercuts its predecessor’s weight by 70kg, weighing in at 1665kg.

Jaguar’s entry-level X-Type sedan has also come in for an upgrade despite fears that the model may be dropped after the current production run ends. The refreshed model will retain its four engines, but gets revised front-end designed to match the rest of Jaguar’s lineup. The car comes with a new mesh grille and new exterior color options. Engine options range from a four-cylinder 2.0L diesel to the range topping 3.0L petrol V6 variant with AWD.

This seems to be a very minor F/L for both cars!

I'm glad they have got rid of the aerial for the XK, it was a weakness of the car!

For some reason i really love the X-Type design.

PS. Isn't it too early for the XK to have changes?

I'm glad that the Jaguar will change the exterior design of the XK. The antenna was just terrible...

The XK just looks old to me -- I always think of the Maranello when I see it.

They shouldn't have that ugly antenna in the 1st place. The next step is to do something about the headlights. The shape looks very odd from the side profile view

I'm dissapointed Rob, what's wrong with the Maranello? It happens to be one of my favourite Ferrari's simply because it's understated and rather unoffensive. :D

Anyhow, my problem with the XK is why would anyone buy one? No offensive to those who actually would, but the fact remains, there are hell of a lot vehicles in this segment which one could choose. The XK doesn't offer much in my opinion... :t-hands:

Yes, it's way too early, I guess people just can't stand 'em aerials. ;)

But this car looks so much like an Aston - which I remember you saying is one of the most accomplished designs around. Care to elaborate?

It's a budget Aston, who wouldn't want one? ;) I hope they improved the interior this facelift - any pictures of it?

These are more like model year changes that any company does, rather than a real facelift. They haven't touched the engines or anything. This is just to get some attention, nothing more. If they were serious (or had the money) the dying/dead X-Type would have gotten way more attention.

Hi guys!

My father is in the market for a new car and is really keen on buying one X-Type. :eusa_pray

My dealer already told us that the MY08 is coming to the market soon and with even richest equipment for the Executive version (Bluetooth, 17'' wheels...), but he hasn't told us anything about exterior design changes. IMO it's even beautiful...

I think my father will wait a couple of months for the MY08 version. :eusa_danc I really hope soon. :D

I'm wondering when they will replace the X-Type - it's really time to go, IMO.

I wonder if Jaguar will actually replace it, seeing as the current X type hasn't very well at all!

If they do make a new X type, they have got to make it much better than the mondeo, unlike the current model!

PRESS RELEASE- JAGUAR REVEALS THE NEW GENERATION X-TYPE

The Jaguar X-TYPE gets a fresh new look for 2008, along with a host of new features inside and outside the vehicle and a new automatic transmission in the acclaimed 2.2 diesel. With significant revisions including nearly 500 new components, the new generation X-TYPE retains all the original car’s strengths, and adds some new ones of its own.

“The new X-TYPE stands for accessibility, versatility, luxury and choice within the Jaguar range,” said CJ O’Donnell, Global Marketing Director, Jaguar Cars. “The package of revisions – particularly the automatic transmission in the 2.2 diesel – presents our established dealers and the key emerging markets with an excellent opportunity to reach new customers and retain existing owners.”

The new X-TYPE’s exterior styling is significantly refreshed, with changes that clearly reflect some of Jaguar’s new saloon car design language, while subtle interior revisions give more choice of trim and equipment, to further emphasise its luxury car credentials.

X-TYPE remains similar. The new 2.2 litre diesel automatic will be priced from £22,500 for the saloon and £23,900 for the estate.
