Hi Naas,

I’ve just been going through some of our navigation content and I have a fantastic audio presentation from Andreas Winckler, Senior Advanced Technology Engineer for BMW, which I wanted to share with you.

In this presentation, made earlier this year in San Jose, he explains how BMW are using smart navigation to make the vehicle more efficient. He goes on to explain how this more than simply calculating the most fuel efficient route...much more.

You can see the BMW presentation here (no forms to fill in): Presentation

I'd be interested to hear your feedback on this. And don't hesitate to send along to any colleagues who may be interested in in-car navigation – It really is a great presentation.

Kind regards,

Helen

Inside Info on how BMW are Improving Efficiency through Smart Navigation

Improving fuel efficiency whilst maintaining the joy of driving is a key concern for the folks at BMW. And navigation systems are key to making this happen.

Earlier this year Andreas Winckler, Senior Advanced Technology Engineer BMW Group Technology Office USA shared his thoughts on next-generation navigation systems and revealed that in the future our navigation systems will be smart, learning and connected.

Winckler says, “Our vision is that navigation systems will be an integral part of the future. They’ll be able to detect their environment and predict the future and use this information for optimal fuel efficiency. They will be smart, learning and connected”.

Click on the presentation below and you’ll get exclusive information on:

How BMW are optimizing the whole dynamic system by merging sensor, navigation and prediction data

How ADAS, cameras, sound, radar and communication links are coming together can make the vehicle more efficient

How navigation systems can go beyond simply calculate the most fuel efficient route and can learn from the drivers habits and support them in changing their behaviour

How the map is transforming into a “geo-referential knowledge space” so in the future the car will be able to learn from the driver and its environment”
This presentation was recorded at our last navigation conference on January 2011 in San Jose and Andreas Winckler will be sharing his expertise again at this year’s event; Beyond Navigation, being held on October 18-19 in San Jose. Andreas will be delivering another keynote presentation on “LBS in an Automotive World”.

I hope you find this useful and if you have any feedback on this content, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Helen
