After managing to persuade some high profile people from BMW to join their ranks, Japanese manufacturer Infiniti is looking to add a couple new models to its range as well, also following in the footsteps of the German company. This time, they’re taking on the 4 Series Coupe.

According to Top Gear, the Chief creative officer of Infiniti, Mr. Shiro Nakamura confirmed to them that the company he’s representing is now developing a BMW 4 Series rival, a two-door coupe.

"I want to make a two-door coupe. It's coming, you'll see it within one year. It'll be a production version, a little bit bigger than a BMW 4 Series, but not as big as a 6 Series. As you know, always our sizes are a little bit in between BMW's sizes. Look at the Q50, that's between the 3-Series and 5-Series,” Mr. Nakamura was quoted saying at the international opening of its automotive design facility in London.
A competitor for the M4 could also become reality, especially since Infiniti has been working on the Q50 Eau Rouge concept for quite a while now and the same engine could be used.

That would create a 2-door Coupe with 560 HP at its disposal, smaller than the M6 and yet a bit bigger than the M4. It wouldn’t take only on the M cars but also on the recently launched and tested Lexus RC-F that’s coming from the same country. The battle would then heat up.

Of course, since Infiniti belongs to Nissan, all sorts of bits and pieces could be borrowed from the GT-R, not only the engine. With a new design and interior, we could see a proper premium sports coupe from the Japanese company entering a new niche for them. Considering the performance of the GT-R, the M4 should be worried.

The new car would have design cues borrowed from the Q80 concept that will be introduced at the Paris Motor Show later this year.

You mean they're working on the G37/Q60 coupe's replacement like they should have been doing all along?

Nothing to see here folks.

Infiniti's Detroit concept to be 'very, very, very, very close' to new Q60

Add one more vehicle to the tally of reveals slated for the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Alfonso Albaisa, executive design director at Infiniti, has confirmed that the marque will be showing a new concept on January 13, the second media day.

More importantly, though, this concept won't be another flight of fancy like many of Infiniti's past show cars. Instead, it will foreshadow the arrival of a replacement for one of its oldest vehicles, the Q60, a model better known as the G37 Coupe.

"On January 13, you're going to see a concept car that's very, very, very, very close to the next Q60," Albaisa told Motor Trend. There isn't much to go on beyond that, sadly, although we are free to speculate.

Infiniti's past would indicate that the Q60 would carry on its role as a two-door version of the Q50 sedan, with styling influenced by its four-door sibling. While that makes sense, there's also an argument to be made for departing from the Q50's styling in favor of a more expressive look that could allow the two-door model to stand out.

Whichever avenue Infiniti chooses, we'll have an even better idea in just a few short months.

 - Not what I'm looking for...

:wtf: - No, this one won't do either...

:yuck: - Still not there...

...

 - AH! There it is! The Legacy tab comes to the smiley rescue again.

Very very nice styling, if they can bring out a production version looking as good as this concept, Infiniti will be on the up!!

Certainly its best looking car yet!

The entry level luxury/sport coupe market is getting really fierce: Q60, new C Coupe, new A5/S6, 4-Series, RC and ATS Coupe. Good times.

The split in the front lip seems like just difference for difference sake, other than that I really like it. They've tightened up the midsection with sculpting that looks very natural.
