X5 Incredible crash of a member of the X5 Forum

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.

My 3 week old X5 was just totaled
I was just involved in a head-on collision yesterday in my three-week old 2007 X5 3.0. The closer rate was at least 80 MPH when the other driver crossed the yellow lines and struck me at a head-on driver offset in her Ford Taurus. The X5 flipped over coming to a stop on the roof after sustaining tremendous damage. I did not lose consciousness during the event and found myself upside down still strapped in. Please see the attached photos of the X5. I was rushed to the Hospital and after CT-Scan, was released 5 hours later. The X5 was amazing. It performed exactly as it was designed to perform under such an immediate forceful impact. I have soreness in the neck, back and shoulders with some minor glass abrasions but over all, I walked away. I have already contacted my BMW Salesman to place an order for another X5 which I hope to receive in 2 months.

Man I'm glad that guy made it unharmed. Sh!t happens, and you can only hope your car holds up. Of course, the germans make some of the safest cars.

good job BMW.

Looking at the pics of your X5, you are one lucky guy.

If you're referring to Mr. Sikorski, i'm glad to inform you that it wasn't him and his car involved in accident, but some member from X5World, unfortunately.

In any case i say this even if it was some Ssang Syong: that is a hell of a job concerning safety; the guy left the car with only small pain in the neck!

:t-cheers:

Thanks for clearing that up. :usa7uh:

The X5 took a lot of damage, the crash is definitely a lot worse than those ENCAP crash testing. The other driver survived as well, that might be good, or bad...depends. Well i didnt' expect a Ford Taurus to stand a chance against the X5, but it did, so i am a bit surprised.

Glad you survived, all the best and take care of yourself

These newer cars are actually designed to absorb some of the impact of older/smaller vehicles. Maybe that had something to do with it? :t-hands:

It would be interesting to see pictures of the Ford. :eusa_thin
