Nerves are frazzled in Stuttgart over the troubles facing Chrysler. Let's not forget that Daimler still has a skin in the Chrysler game, and while everyone natters and frets about whether or not Fiat will prove to be the Savior Of Auburn Hills, execs are also thinking about the worst-case scenario in the halls of Daimler.

According to the Detroit Bureau, Bodo Uebber, Daimler's Chrysler guy, reported recently that concerned shareholders are rightfully nervous, as Daimler could be stuck with a $1 billion liability if Chrysler ist kaput. Unfunded pensions and potential claims from suppliers could result in very bad things for Daimler. Cerberus and the German automaker are also duking it out over whether Chrysler's health was honestly disclosed at the time of the deal, tying up any developments with the remaining 19.9 percent of Chrysler that Daimler still owns. Both Uebber and Dieter Zetsche, Daimler's CEO, are actively trying to unload the company's stake in Chrysler to Cerberus, but predictably, that conversation isn't going anywhere at the moment.

Is the Chrysler nightmare gonna find an end for Daimler anytime soon or will it last forever with these billions bleeding towards America...:t-banghea

Was just reading about this...how unfortunate. Daimler should have unloaded all of it when they had the chance.

I'm surprised no one on this site has posted/notice this, but the new Jeep Grand Cherokee used the current ML platform as its basis so they're still cooperating on that 20 percent Daimler stil has.

The grand cherokee does NOT use the ML platform.

Mercedes deserves what they get for fooling with such an awful company.

Shared technology was the crossfire, which was the left over SLK, which was actually built in Austria. The 300M had the MB tranny and rear suspension in the Hemi version, as did the Dodge Charger. Jeep used the older MB diesel engine. The Grand Cherokee was developed on its own platform, seperate from any Mercedes. Apart from the Crossfire there is no shared platform between Chrysler and MB.

The 300C/Charger, is built on the platform of the E-Class (W211), only with steel instead of alu suspension component. The Crossfire is not the only MB-based Chrysler...
AFAIK, the next Grand Cherokee will be based on the platform of the ML.

There's also a lot of MB motors/gearbox in the Chrysler Group's line-up...

The new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee most certainly does use the ML platform, air suspension and all.

New York: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee must serve two masters

Read the press releases. In fact it even says it in the Jeep press release:

The all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is built on a proven rear-wheel-drive unibody platform sharing the same underpinnings as the Mercedes-Benz ML.

MB should just trade/sell/give the 19.8% of Chysler to Fiat and be done with it. Or force Shrimp to buy it since it was his F*** up.

300C was built off the W210 platform I believe.

Yep the LX cars were built on the W210 or bits and pieces of it depending on who you ask. I can clearly see the Benz parts and engineering in those cars though. Best "Chryslers" made in a lifetime. Too bad they didn't get MB to help with the smaller FWD junk they brought to the market after that.

I don't see how Mercedes could have helped much here since the only FWD cars they have produced are the A & B-Classes, Vaneo and V-Class (Vito) models. Of these only the Vaneo and V-Class chassis would be suitable for a large Chrysler sedan / van.

They could have helped with technology such as engines, transmissions etc. :eusa_thin

Another ******* good reason to REALLY hate Chrysler, damn one billion in this economic circumstances?..sh!t!

The title is misleading... it's not a question of "IF" but of "WHEN"

Not a reason to hate... Daimler made the decision to buy crap, now they have to live with it.

The only one to blame and hate for getting Mercedes into this whole mess, is the man in the picture below:
